working a deal on a cab

I see this is your first post - Welcome to the 6.
I see you're from Portland - Good to see another local on the 6.
Have you been to Sunset yet? I think they just sold an 08 C2S that I looked at for a fellow 6speeder. It was a great car with a great price attached. Start with Sunset since they are local and expand your search from there. I looked for a few months before I found my car. It's tough trying to find something local at a decent price (the Sunset car I just mentioned was a great find) as there just are not that many Porsche's in the area. The Seattle area increases the number of cars (Barrier always has a great deal of inventory) but there prices always seems very high. No Cal and So Cal would be area's I would focus on as there seems to be a rather high volume of cars for sale and the prices seem more reasonable. FWIW, I bought my car from No Cal.
I found the Porsche website to be of value (especially in looking for CPO cars) as well as autotrader.com
Good luck (and the search is part of the fun).
p.s. + everything Larry had to say as well

yrralis & JoeShark,
Thanks for the help! Joe, I did check out Sunset's website, but they only have a GT3 way out of my price range listed - haven't been over there physically, though. I have a work colleague who pointed me over to this forum - I don't know his username though. He got a 2003 996 TT about a year ago, and it's sure a sweet ride.
Can't wait to find the right 911... at the right price!

i thought CPO cars from an authorized porsche dealer with a clean carfax, dme, ppi, visual inspection and test drive was the best..

I completely agree with W00TPorsche- get what you want, unless you're really up against a hard price cap. Unless this is a short term purchase, don't get too caught up in the "did I get the best deal possible" esp. for a car like this. Get the car you want- I don't think many of us look back and say, "Man, I regret shelling out the extra $5K for my favorite color, full leather, PSE, Nav, adaptive, fave wheels, whatever"- in fact, I think many more would say that they regret NOT spending a little more to get those little details that makes their car "perfect"!
i prob will not let this one go... but its my nature to try to get the best deal possible.. hate to leave
any money on the table..
in the end, few grand is not going to stop me from getting the car i really want !

Scoper if you want a good read on prices I would do few things:
1) Visit Carmax.com regularly. They don't haggle, so they usually are a consistent indicator on where the market is.
2) Keep an eye on the high volume independent dealers such as Sports Trend (stasales.com) and Intersport (intersportautosales.com). These guys move a lot of 997's, and usually keep prices competitive.
3) Don't look at Porsche Dealer listings for a read on the market. They consistently price their cars $5-$15k above market. Sometimes that can be worth it depending on warranty and extras, but not often.
4) Ebay is all over the place, and not reliable.
5) For people like you in the NW, visit ParkPlaceLTD.com. They don't regularly market the cars on Autotrader or craigslist as far as I can tell, so decent cars can fly under the radar for a while. Although often over priced, they do have occasional good deal (e.g. they currently have an '06 lapis/gray c2s cab at $52k.)
Some years of the 997 market are tight right now, so prices are rising. Unless Porsche starts selling lots of new models, the supply of off-lease and trade-in vehicles will remain tight.

I'm pretty sure he picked it up last weekend (based on his email to me). Funny thing is that the car is still listed on the Sunset Porsche website:

I feel that every car dealeship ought to have an updated current inventory listing.
The BEST updated site I have ever seen are these guys in Norcal. They specify if the car "arrived" or whether its "sold" and it's updated every day . http://porsche.niello.com/new.php

It's amazing how the prices are . I found an 09 CPO coupe with PDK asking 15K more but these are two different cars . Apples to apples .. cabs in Florida are priced much like what you are facing . I did find one car with significantly lower miles but not a CPO . Lots of options .. no sport chrono though. looks well kept .
btw ur car (and joesharks) looks so beautiful !
wish i had the ***** to pull the trigger on black again.. but i had black car before, and as gorgeous as they are, i cant do black/black in southern cal heat in a cabriolet..
