My statement of "rare" applies to the history of the 911 car. With a multi decade production the C4 "S" (widebody) was a newbie with the 993 model (1996) . With the 996 cars the 4S was also less common.

The 4S origin it was a way of combining the AWD into the Turbo platform . In fact one auto journalist even called it "the UN Turbo" .

It had all the hints of the Turbo except that engine. Some will claim that the NA engine is a better response . In fact its even used in winter driving programs . Others wil claim that its heavy and NOt the best platform for the normally aspirated engine.

With production volume --it seems like a big 4S surge came with the 09 model (big refresh --lsd standard and redesigned tail lights) and upward . I have my own guesses of why this may be the case ..

... but the car itself is a beautiful car --it's just NOT the typical 911 normally aspirated car --NOR is it the Turbo .

Bottom line- from that group you can't make a bad choice!

C4S with light wheels (and especially so with PCCB's) has a perfectly light and communicative steering.

In the 997.2 models (09+) the AWD system is fully electronically managed vs viscous center diff in previous models, and is much lighter.

And if you track it in the wet, you will be "cheating" according to one DE instructor...lol.

All your potential choices are fine ones. However, don't let anyone tell you a C4S has a performance disadvantage. On the track you will be showing a lot of folks that big fat ***!

I'm just a bit confused... I'm in the same boat right now, looking at C2S vs C4S - but on the Porsche website, the width of both cars is listed at 71.18in - no difference?? Am I missing something here? Are the body panels different or something?

Nice username ! I finally found the same info in the brochure where the C4 is discussed. Wonder why they don't put in the correct tech specs.

Question

All 997.2 are showing a width of 71.18in on the Porsche North America Website... S or not?

Looks like they're all wide body now? Can someone confirm?

I just drove both cars back to back at a dealership last week. I could feel a minor loss of road feel with the C4S and slightly heavier steering. The dealership had a slalom course set up in a spare parking lot that we ran through a few times. Here is where you could feel the extra weight and slight loss of nimbleness. However on roads the C4S also felt a little bit better anchored to the road and was more stable over bumps. I ended up choosing the C2S because of the price, color and option list on the car. If the cars would have been identically equipped and within $5000-$7000 of each other I would have chose the C4S because of it's AWD and better year round driving capability (with winter tires).

Windy, cold, (50) rainy day at Thunderhill for a track event yesterday. The C4S was fully confidence inspiring and very progressive in handling. Not a single sphincter tightening moment.

Unfortunately, not the same could be said for a freakin' ton of other drivers. Offs in every session and every group. One poor person j-hooked their beautiful red Mustang into a wall and just crushed the front end. A Nissan 370 Z went far enough off track to knock out a junction box and the communications to the back half of the track.

A C2 is a fine car and a C4 has a bigger window of competence when conditions are not perfect.
