I found my 997. What do I do next?

those 09s were going for about 20% off for a long time which meant it sold 8k miles ago at about $80.
IMO, not having nav is a big miss but some here swear it's not necessary and i'm ok with that.
that car's probably worth $72 tops.
keep in mind the 09 carreras are just coming into the market and dealers got hammered on them new with the recession, and with allocations down, they're looking for top dollar selling them the second time.
i know a guy who's getting $80 in trade for a C4S loaded that was about $116k new.
hope these data points help. patience when you get buying a new car in your blood is the hardest thing to manage.

The reason is very simple -- the Florida dealerships do not need to keep the used cars . There are so many independent lots in Florida that they don't even have to auction a car to find a buyer.
He can offer the 72K "take it or leave it one time offer" but that won't buy him that car. I feel 74 might work but with the CPO .. it simply prices the car out of the market.

Thanks for all your input guys...I love this board. The dealer chick wrote me back. original sticker was 99,895. Thanks for pointing out that the car comes without NAV
I wonder what a NAV installation would cost. anyone done it?
I think I will make a cash offer for 75k and ask them to flatbed it to my house. First time spending this kinda coin...Am I gonna be spending 5k on sales tax too? I guess there's no way around this if I"m working with the dealer, huh?

To anwser your other Q's; I got my 09 997S w/PDK options much as yours with XM Sat, Sport Chrono, PASM, Power Seats, Unviersal Audio, Mats, and Bose for about $78k about 45 days ago in Jan 2010 from a local dealer (DC/MD/VA) also. My car listed at $99,250 also close to your price point. So $75k or slightly above is doable I would think IF they want to sell the car.
Final note..my car did not have multifxn steering or PSE (porsche sport exhaust); both were easily added at a discount price (Porshce is currently offering 20% off all Techiqument BTW) for about $2500 total in my deal with my dealer to buy the car. ALSO NAV can be added...worked that deal also and mine was installed on this past Friday! Costs a bit tho..almost TWICE the price of it optioned from factory. This is in part because the part must be ordered DIRECT from germany and has to be recoded to your VIN to update the car and codes (which also come from Germany direct also)...and the new PCM 3.0 with NAV they send you has the built in changer whcih is nice vs the single on I had before..but IF I could have ordered it without the changer and just with added NAV to save some coin...I would have. Anyway NAV can be added to the car but plan on spending about $3800 in all for parts, install/labor ect. Some may say it is high but I just would rather have the NAV for my own use..I use it daily and resale value.
Good luck..PM me if you have any Q's!

I agree but they will let him walk . I even feel that at 72k a person is close enough to just buy a new one. My price point suggestions may even end up with no car . That's how firm in price the used car CPO market is in this region . He has more room buying a new car to negotaite.

So I made an offer...
Here's what they hit me back with. She asked me what VA sales tax was and I guessed 4%. Not sure though...I've always done my own tax/tags/title at DMV. I don't see why I couldn't do it here. She is a little pushy, eh? I think I'll walk here. Thoughts?

Thank you for taking the time to speak with me over the phone today regarding your interest in our 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera “S” Coupe. Your offer of 75k plus tax, tag & title was not approved by our Certified Pre-owned Management team.
I am able to sell you the car for $83,000 plus tax, tag & title. Please keep in mind that this already includes a Certified Pre-Owned Warranty up to 100k. The total out the door price once you add the 4% tax rate you gave me for the state of Virginia, tag & title is $87,295.24. Please let me know under what name you plan to title the car and the complete address so I can prepare the documents.
I did my own independent research of your 75k offer compared to what for example Edmunds.com recommends what the selling price should be and this is what I came up with.
As you can see below, Edmunds.com recommends that a Dealer should sell it for $82,430 and this estimated recommendation does not include the Extended Porsche Certified Warranty which includes a complete and thorough inspection, a vehicle checklist, getting any service that needs to be done BEFORE putting it up for sale which will provide you with a manufacturer-backed warranty since you are buying it from an officially recognized Porsche dealership thru Porsche Cars North America, Inc.. This will give you complete peace of mind up to 100k miles knowing that your car is covered. Not only do you get a low mileage Porsche with the existing 4 year/50k mile factory warranty…you will also benefit from the Porsche Certified Pre-Owned Warranty of 2 years/50,000 miles so in total you will receive 6 years/100k miles warranty. Keep in mind that this extended warranty is only available thru a franchised Porsche Dealership and cannot be offered at an independent pre-owned car lot that is not officially recognized by Porsche Cars North America, Inc. We also run a Car Fax to assure the vehicle has never been in an accident which is another plus when considering a pre-owned Porsche and we also provide you with a complete & detailed file of all the services we performed including a Vehicle Inspection Checklist outlining every aspect of your Porsche to make sure nothing has fallen thru the cracks and everything has been addressed and taken care of for you.
In conclusion, I believe our offer of 83,000 plus tax, tag & title is a fair offer for the 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera “S” 2 door coupe. The 75k you offered is more along the price range of a regular base Porsche Carrera coupe, not the Carrera “S” coupe model that this one happens to be.

Walk? No, run! There's a new wrinkle we haven't heard before (upgraded alloy wheels) but so what? Plus she states the warranty info incorrectly, but again so what?
Bottom line is that you can order a 2010/11 with the options you want (including Nav ), MSRP$102-3K, and should be able to get 6-8% off. So, obviously, you get a NEW one for an extra 12-13K. I wouldn't even extend the courtesy of giving this "sales person" a reply. By the way, which dealership is this?

I told you so. Used cars is separate from new but I usually do better in new car purchases because I have found as you did .. they (used) didn't bargain. I even explained why.
It just so happens that they only have ONE 997S available in new cars . South Florida is hot sales region and cars don't sit long without being sold.
Lastly -- whenever a person cites "Edmunds" as a reason to support their high price .. tell them to let Edmunds buy the car at 83K .

Wouldn't bother getting back to her. Wait for her to get back to you, she will, then offer her $ 78,500. If they won't deal with you and you've got to have a specific color and a specific option list pass on the the used car a buy a new one from a dealer closer to home. The price difference won't be that dramatic and you're not saving enough to justify the price you're paying for a used car that's not optioned exactly the way you want it. Besides, buy a new one and you get to break it in the way you want to.

They only have one new 997S though (red one --nice options too) . They have 4 base coupes and an orange Gt3.
You'll do better in new cars. Proportionally.

1) Production is lower for 2010 and they have sold a lot of cars .
2) They are not a high volume CPO dealership -but the cars they do have are well kept .
3) if they sell it out of state .. they can't service it .. so its better to sell it locally .
In short -- he needs to know who to call, what to ask for , and instead he opted for internet sales? He also needs to be ready to buy a car on the same day with an offer. Do you have any idea how many people walk into Porsche dealerships to kick the car's tires and not buy a car ? If he shows them he's a serious buyer and has the money in hand used cars will still let him walk . They will sell the car .. just not to a bargain shopper.
New cars is the route. 8-10 percent on a new 997S on the SAME day would make most dealerships consider the offer (in my not so humble opinion).

Ask her if Edmunds is really ready to buy it.
And $8K for "Premium Leather Seating" - that's a standard leather car - which means about as much leather as on your wife's purse. Seriously take a look, without vented seats, most of the seat is vinyl.
So take her 82k-8k, and BAM! You got your new offer = $74K.
In the optimal situation, that car would go for 80K. Now, I think 77K tops. And as others mentioned probably sold for 85k the first time around.
But look around - what we says is useless if there are not other cars going for 7x's - although there are - the one in ATL was 79k and they have a 6-spd Cab there as well for 79K. '09 991S just not going in the 80s.
Granted, they have nice colors and low mileage...still...

^ no need for that
i agree new preowned 2009s are just coming onto the market and dealers will be asking a premium. i don't doubt that they won't let this go for $74k, but IMO, an educated buyer won't pay the same for what the car sold when it was new.
luxury dealers typically target a $8-10k profit on a pre-owned car and don't enjoy the benefits of manufacturer hold-backs that are both not apparent to buyers and are predicated on moving units. hence the "spread" on wholesale --> private seller --> dealer pricing.
i might also add that while florida is a great market for porsches (and lots of luxury cars), it's also way over distributed relative to the local market and the first place i look to buy at wholesale or cost. in just the porsche dealerships, there's the collection, suncoast, naples, champion, etc.
in every case, if it's exactly the car one's looking for, then it's worth a premium. that's an individual decision.
