PCM Without Nav Retrofit

Hi Guys,
I'm sure there's some good threads on this issue so if someone can point me in the right direction or help me out it would be greatly appreciated.
So i'm about to purchase a 2006 C4S Cab that has the PCM without Nav.
I was initially looking at getting one with Nav even though i know it sucks but it would just have made my life easier.
But the deal on this one is too good to pass up so i will most probably grab it.
It does have Sport Chrono Plus so if and when i replace the PCM will i lose all abilities to use the Sport Chrono or can i still have the actual gauge work?

Now the car does have the Bose Premium Sound System and i remember hearing that it complicates things when replacing the head unit PCM.
So essentially my question is how bad does it complicate things? Will it cost me an arm and a leg?
How big of a job is it?
I am thinking of going with one of the latest Pioneer Avic series that has ipod,Nav and Bluetooth integration.

Thank you

I could be wrong but I think the Sports Chrono is intimately tied to the innards of the PCM. I have a 2006 C4 and the manuals that come with the it suggest to me that it is all one unit in terms of the computations. I decided to go with adding the OEM Nav. It is a very expensive way to go, especially considering the primitive technology it uses (spinning a dial to select letters of the alphabet one by one). I'm glad I did it because it has come in handy and I don't like the idea of sticking a Garmin on the dashboard (even though my Garmin is MUCH better than the OEM Nav).

There's a leap here that I'm not following. I too bought a pre-owned 997S with PCM but no Nav. I had the Nav added (it's a dealer-installable thingie) and off I went. No replacement of the PCM, just the add of a few parts and it was done. If you WANT to replace the PCM with an aftermarket piece, that's above my pay grade. But if you want to just add Nav, see your dealer. It's not something I would try at home. I'd guess it's about $2K or less installed (a huge number for what you get - but I like having it built in).

As for the Sports Chrono, if you lose the PCM, you lose the chrono functions.

Feel free to shoot me a PM regarding my install, Bose, etc. Lots of misconceptions and falsehoods regarding this stuff. Most of it is not true or way overblown.

Good luck!

Steve

PS: My advice is if you want to do aftermarket Nav, etc, dont buy a car with the Sports Chrono feature.
