Lament from the top of the food chain

I too am a believer in the quest never ending. For dozens of years, I've been a car enthusiast. Drawing dozens of them on my school notebook, reading C&D since I was 10, racing sprint karts in my pre-teen years. Watching Indy (once ABC showed it on TV) and LeMans (where I fell in deep deep love with the Ford GT40 on a small black and white TV back in the day).
But I lived a conservative life. Bringing up three kids, trying to teach them proper economic priorities and though I had done reasonably well financially, driving conservative and efficient cars until I was 50.
My life-changing moment was when my wife surprised me with a 1/2 day entry in World Class Driving out in Las Vegas. That day my passion was revitalized, focused and the realization that buying and driving a great sports car would fill a big hole in my life.
So I bought a used 997S Cab. Beautiful, but needed a bit of work to bring it back to 'new' condition. I've aways been handy with cars and other mechanical things, and so reading 6Speed, I realized that there were many modifications that could be made to fulfill a hidden passion in making the car exactly what I wanted and to make it a more personal ownership experience.
But during the World Class Driving event I re-bonded with the car that was the original catalyst for my lust for cars - a Ford GT. When Ford announced that they were going to build 4000 of them, and then having a chance to drive one in Las Vegas, I began my search. My wife knew she created a monster but she appreciated the joy I had in working on these beautiful machines. And so a year after buying the Porsche, there was a 200 mile old Ford GT in my garage.
It's been a fabulous run - driving, maintaining, enhancing and sharing my love of these great machines. And I don't believe that it's ended - even though I now own two of the cars that have been at the top of my list for years.
So, what's next? Well, the car I drew most often back in public school was a Corvette. And the new Cobalt Z06 or the ZR1 are calling my name. The hands-on aspect has me thinking Ultima Can Am (really excited about that but not sure I have the time), a new F 458 (?) would excite me just for the technology and engine sound.
So who knows. I'm NOT the kind of guy who turns these cars quickly. I plan to keep them and accumulate a small collection. Since I fall deeply in love with each car I carefully buy.
So enjoy the P-car. It's an amazing machine, durable, open to many upgrades and the foundation for a personal collection that will have you smiling for the rest of your life. Just like me.
