Took A Hit Today

Just ponder this question:
If you were lying on your death bed (God forbid of course) would you be saying to yourself that you wished you hadn't driven the car so much because you put too many miles on it or that you wish you would have spent more time driving the hell out of it ??
I rest my case !!

I've watched these mileage "depreciation" discussions for years; always interesting but perhaps more opinion than fact based.
FWIW:
From Edmunds.com, low mileage premium, both cars in 'Excellent' condition
2007 2S cab with 8,000 miles +$1320
2007 2S cab with 12,000 miles +$1183
That's the cheapest 4,000 miles you'll ever drive in a P-car
BTW, I just put the third set of rears on my 'excellent' 20,000 miles C2S.

Agree completely that it's a personal thing. Previously, I owned and E46 M3 and in 3-years has 21,000 - I thought that was low.
Here's yet another opinion to help put you to sleep at night
Similar to Larry, I do savor the moment when I ride the Porsche. Each time feels very similar to the first time. I'm still very early into it (4 months; 1,200 miles), but would love to keep the feeling going. I did in the M3. Even with 21,000, they were mostly weekend driving and few long road trips.
Now, on the confession of the low miles
I can be quite **** when cleaning my cars. Love them to look show room each time I go out for a drive. Problem is, it is a love/hate thing. Love it due to the way the car looks and makes me feel when driving it, and sometimes actually enjoy the process. Hate it, because it takes too much time away from other things, the time doesn't always make the Mrs. happy, and my aching back feels from it the day after; poor pitiful me....
Not sure I am the only one in this camp, but maybe....??
I do want to drive it more, just can't bring myself too it - especially, in the rain. Please tell me there is a mental health specialist dealing in this sort of thing.
Now, you know my story.

Joe, Im right behind ya...Im at 9800 miles.
I like to drive the DD beater to put miles on and then I appreciate the Porsche even more when I drive it...so for me, not a good DD...but I certainly respect all that do, its their money and their car.

I don't think the hit is large enough to justify not driving it. My car has 20,300 miles on it and the car is now 37 mos. old. I try to hold myself back and not drive it some days but its like a drug and you are jonesing so you drive it.
I just checked Edmunds as well and my 07 997S with 9500 miles is +$1275 for a car with 9500 miles, while my car at 20300 miles is at +$625. Wow for only $650 I'd rather drive the car and enjoy her.

I can't imagine taking the minivan grocery shopping... Isn't that what cars are for?

All;
Some people get our cars mixed up with other performance cars that require major repairs and upkeep at 20-30k mile intervals. Prior to buying my 997 I looked at F355s and F348s. Many of the ads had a copy of the 30k service as an incentive to purchase the car. The record actually made me rethink the purchase. I use my car as a DD, and was replacing an NSX. I remember turning 100k in the NSX and thinking... Man, I really got my moneys worth. Many of those miles were spirited (but legal) drives through the Columbia Gorge.
Also, remember part of the joy of driving a 997 is the joy it brings others just seeing one in the parking lot or on the road. My love for these cars started before I could drive. It would be a shame to keep such a beautiful car (especially the OP's) hidden in the garage.
These cars are not great investments from a dollar point of view, quality of life value is a whole different story.

I agree with the bulk of the folks here. Drive that M(*^&(*^*&^!
I kept one of my Porsche Carreras for 10 years and only put 27K miles on it and it was perfect! Had every option and lots of upgrades. I traded it for....Yep, another Porsche, and I got MAYBE $1000 over what the book indicated.......So the lesson to me is, I sure could have driven a lot more for those 10 years and given up a whopping $1000! Now I have 4 of them and the only problem is rotating them enough to rack up some miles on them all ....A terrible problem to have.
Drive that beast and enjoy it! When it wears out get a new one...They will probably keep making them....

JoeShark,
Congrats on hitting 10K. Now it's time to park the car in the middle of your living room with velvet ropes around it. Let it sit there for . . . oh . . . the next 30 years after which you can bring it to the Mecum Auto Auction so it can fund your retirement. NOT!
Actually, I've seen similar done with GT2's. There was a certain Porsche dealer in Parsippany, NJ who had one in the showroom which they actually surrounded with velvet ropes. I actually found out the car was pre-owned (!) and they were selling it as a one owner car with 175 miles on it. Who the heck drops $192,000 a GT2 drives it for only 175 miles and then gets rid of it? By the way after about a month the car was moved to the lot and allowed to sit in the weather just like all of the rest of their inventory. I stopped by just to touch it so I can tell everyone I touched a GT2. Oh, and while I was there I also touched their Carrera GT which evidenty belongs to the dealership and had a big "Not for Sale" sign on it.

So funny Joe. I too have pictures of my mileage at 9999 and 10,000. The kind of sad part is that this too just took place and my car is a 2006. It now has about 10,400 on the clock. It was a weekend warrior before I purchased it and remains that way.
