Racing/tracking engine mods on FI cars
Hi,
Just wanted to try to open thread about this if there is any people here who did any serious re-hauling of engine with turbo or SC blower installed to sustain racing conditions. What was you have done and why?
I am still reading info regarding this and so far I see references to M96 engines mostly, nothing about newer variants. Usual suggestions were to replace rods, rod bolts, some work on pistons, but none of that info is very informative and as I see mostly considered proprietary info of any particular racing shop.
So, if anyone has engine with a blower and regularly run it at 7K+ rpms for prolonged enough time - what it was you did to it, if anything?
Thanks, Paul.

Are you asking what to do with your car to "race" it or "track it"? These are two very different things.
Racing a car requires it be set up to meet the requirements of a specific racing class. Super charging or Turbo charging would put you into a GT class and then you would want to strip the interior, use Gas adjustable shocks etc. You would be better off to buy a 997 cup car and go racing more safely for less money.
To track a car you can run anything you want, for example in a PCA drivers ed group. Second question is... Have you ever done a drivers ed or lapping day? If you have not, I do not recommend you modify your car at all. The stock 997, or 997S is plenty fast to scare the (*#^ out of you, and even more out of your instructor.
If you are asking a question about durability of specific mods, I don't have personal experience with porsches and these type of mods. In my experience when you go to a forced induction system as a mod you compromise the durability of the powerplant significantly. I don't recommend it. The best way to go faster is to buy a faster car.
