'08 C2 - 16.2mpg on my commute, about 1/2 stop and go and about 1/2 freeway. I like to feel the acceleration, so I'm sure that costs me.

It's interesting to see so many 20+ MPG reports... they are not driving the car as it should be driven...

High milers will have gunk deposits and soot...

right now 21.6 MPG at 7800 miles. I do have soot. But, I do vary manual mode and sport-auto modes.

The problem is the gallons put in at refill isn't an accurate measurement of how much gas you used either, even if you use the same pump.

To really get proper reading you need to precisely meter the amount of gas you put in, which isn't easily done.

I average 18mpg on a 14 mile round trip mixed (more highway) commute. When I'm on the freeway I'm typically cruising in 5th and 3rd on streets.

In city driving on the way to work if I drive very easy I can manage 17.5mpg..if I play I will be lucky to get 14mpg..all city driving. I drove to San Diego and back averaging 75mph and I got 25.6mpg. It really is amazing these cars that are capable of what they can do yet still get this kind of mileage.

Adias,

When you say this, are you referring to the DFI engines? I know that the audi RS4's have an issue with carbon buildup.

All engines. The well known saying 'open it up to burn the carbon' is as old as ICEs.

Except that generally cars don't have to be driven in the upper 75% of the RPM band to stay soot-free at the exhaust.
