Do you turn off your air and radio before turning off the car?

is it safe for the car to keep them on when you turn off the car?

I hear that your warranty will be voided if you don't turn off the air and radio before turning off the car...

 

Out of all of the cars that I have ever owned or my family had growing up, we never once turned off anything. My ex-GF mom turned stuff off and I never understood why. Unless someone jumps on here and say "Porsche says to turn it off", it doesnt matter and people will just go back and froth about it.

It was an old-school belief with the older cars (like warming them up for an extended period), but I can't imagine it does any harm with new cars. I hope someone can verify one way or the other.

 

I'm sure the idea is less load on the starter/battery. Bet if you had to jump start the car, you'd see the point.

 

There is a point there. I can confirm that just from jumping cars in the past.

 

Old habits die hard. I still turn off everything before shutting the car down. However, my wife seldom does so in her truck. More than a couple of times I've started her truck only to have my eardrums assaulted by the radio turned up LOUD .

 

My grandma unplugs the tv, stove, washer/dryer when she isn't using them. EVERYTHING gets unpluged when there's lightening!

 

In my experience, most current cars disconnect everything but ignition when cranking - so there should be no extra load under normal starting. In the case of a jump start, most jumper cable connections do not supply enough power to start a car with a dead battery - I find that I usually have to let the dead battery charge a bit before cranking. In this case you do want to turn off all the accessories so that all of the current goes into the battery.


One feature that I do miss from the OEM Pioneer system in my Explorer is the automatic turning down of high volume levels when the car is restarted...

 

I used to turn everything off. Learned that from my mother. But with my 2010 I haven't been. It's kinda nice to start her up snd have the V1, radio(Bluetooth) and air all turn on as well. I just wanna make sure I am not damaging anything.

 

How about pumping the throttle few times before turning off the car? Would it void the warranty too if we don't do it?

 

I leave my climate control on auto at 70F and never touch it. Well, sometimes I'll go down to 68F if I'm feeling warm. Other than that it stays where it's at. As for the radio, I never listen to it, it's always off. I don't have much occasion to drive the car, so I want to hear it when I'm in it.

The only reason I turn things off is so I don't have everything on when I get back in the car....Unless of course I'm just getting out for a few minutes......My wife, on the other hand leaves everything on, but I think she does that just to scare the bejeezes out of me when I get in her car. The best one is the radio at max volume! My heart ends up in my mouth!!
