Maybe we will try CA instead...DME thoughts

So since it looks like Long Island is out I have a DME from a 2005 C2S in CA. Listed as having 49,889 miles.

Let me know what you guys think. It was clearly driven with spirit! I just hope thats not a bad thing...

I would avoid this one, high mileage and bad DME. There will be better options just be patient.

Range 2: 7500-7700 RPM
Range 3: 7700-7900 RPM
Range 4: 7900-8400 RPM
Range 5: 8400-9500 RPM
Range 6: 9500-11000 RPM

The average speed of the car was about 40 mph

Depends on price. The DME isn't bad. 7 ignitions in Range 4 is nothing.

I work about fifteen minutes from the dealer - I'd be glad to take a look at it if that would be of any help to you.

FWIW, those 7 ignitions at 8000 rpm took place in less than 2 hundredths of a second.

So you're saying damage can't be done in a split second?

But that's exactly my point. I hear so often on this forum it's only a fraction of a second, yada yada yada, but that is just opinion based. The fact is Porsche adds those ranges for a reason and the range 4 is getting into the physical limits of the engine. Long term damage can be done if only for a fraction of a second. It also speaks volumes as to how the car was cared for.

It would be nice. I have a lot more talking to do with the guy.

To the rest of the posts, I was on the fence about it. I knew the rev time was very very low but couldnt decide.

I can't.

A number similar to this can still be CPO'ed (no 6'es), hence my expression of that opinion

Easy! - It's run for nearly another 600 hours since that overrev and is still running. Obviously seriously damaged the engine....

bad DME or not, i would personally avoid any 2005, unless it was CPOed and i am buying it from a P-dealer...

i understand the 'normal' avg speed should be around 30 mph

this car being around 40 mph suggests it was driven on a hwy often or the driver had a heavy right foot.

last overrevs (2+) was at roughly 690hours so the driver calmed down in the last 500 hours (or he finally learned how to drive properly )
