I'm completely in love with PDK BUT........
Sometimes I wish I could drive a 6 speed just for the day. I do NOT want to give up my PDK, it's an amazing price of technology and a ton of fun to drive in it's own right. I prefer PDK but I would have fun ripping thru the gears (around redline) once in a while.
Just sharing. Please do not start a 6spd vs pdk feud.

I don't think there is any way to start a thread with the words 6spd and PDK in the same paragraph without starting this debate. After we're done we can discus Coke vs. Pepsi, Ford vs. Chevy, XBOX vs. PS3, Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD, or any other topic that everyone is divided on and feel the need to justify their purchases.
Anyway, that being said, I never get in my Porsche and wish it had anything other than the 6spd.

The first (modern) Porsche I test drove was a Cayman with PDK. I was impressed with the technology and performance, but my wife reminded me that I was a manual aficionado from way back and that I would soon find myself wishing for a 6 speed. She, as usual, was right so I drive a 6-speed and throughly enjoy the tactile connection with the car. The PDK is an amazing piece of street gear and I don't fault anyone for wanting it or enjoying it.

No, I do not know what you mean. The PDK is a sequential manual. I use it manual all the time. My left leg is not lazy and it does not miss the clutch.

The PDK is definitely impressive technology. My impression after a test drive was "that's pretty cool, but it's still an automatic transmission". I prefer the feel of a manual clutch and gearbox (especially with my B&M short shift kit). Sure, the PDK shifts faster than any human ever could, but I 'm more interested in having fun driving than shaving a few milliseconds off my 1/4 mile ET.

Come on. Don't make me sorry for posting this. It's not about whch is better. And yes, pdk is a manual and it is fun shifting it. I just wish once a month i could "go old school".

I am really loving PDK. I am really liking it even better with the paddle shift wheel over the push pull buttons. I just got from teh track and the paddles where a major improvment over the buttons in feel and allowed me better hand placement.
I thought the buttons where the best but had 1 problem at the track with them due to there placement ont he steering wheel.
I recently read a interview with Walter Rohl and he suggests the paddles. I decided to try a wheel out, kept my old wheel just in case. I can not see myself going back to the buttons. The feel on the paddles is just that much better.

I can relate and that's one of many reasons why I have two porsches (1 manual and the other PDK) . I'll go beyond it and say .. I like the normally aspirated car but sometimes I want more Hp --OR -- I like the power of the Turbo but sometmes I want a more nimble car like the 997S--Or sometimes I want comfort and space --thus the M3 .

I had a DCT M3 before my Porsche and although the DCT was obviously a very fast tranny I ended up driving the car in auto mode mostly and the car became boring fast. 6speed is the way to go for a fun driving experience but you cannot deny the performance advantage of the DCT/PDK technology.

Yep, this has been beaten to death many times. Either tranny is justifiable to each respectable owner, so enjoy the car which ever tranny it may be.
One thing's for certain though, with all else being equal...the driver rowing through those gears, double clutching on downshift, heel-toe with rev matching AND following the right line WILL always get more props than the driver pressing that steering wheel button to shift the "faster" car. With that being said, as long as the driver enjoys his/her ride it doesn't matter which tranny is better.

For what it's worth check out dealer inventory. You will see a good number of 6 speed manual vehicle cars in inventory roughly 50/50. I can recall when PDK was introduced we were told manual 911's would become a thing of the past. Looks like the dealers feel there is still a strong demand for the 3 pedals. This could be a slow phase out process not sure. I know the Ferrari 458 can only be had in dual clutch auto form.
