Comments on various mods done this week..
Did many modifications on my 997.1 c2s this week:
- Bilstein Damptronics coilovers
- Schnell cold intake
- K&N filter
- Speedtech exhaust
- Yellowstuff brake pads (front only)
- Short shifter kit
Instantly noticeable change is the short shifter; it's a great improvment i don't know why it's not stock. However, we had some issues; to begin we tried to install the drop link but it wasnt working. After, we had problems with reverse gear (doesnt work) and it's still at the mechanics to fix that. But the (forward) gears do work nicely; it's short and extremely tight and smooth, i like it.
Of course, the Bilstein damptronics makes a big change! Difficult to compare because my suspension was pretty worn out. The contrast was big. The car feels connected to the road more than ever. The downside is it makes the Hankook V12 tire's limitations even more obvious, i just can't wait to install other tires.
It's pretty stiff, even non-sport mode. And the gap between ''soft'' and ''sport'' is reduced, so i prefer to stay on sport most of the time because the soft is not soft enough to really compensate our bad roads. But i will surely use the soft mode when going to the worst roads in Montreal...
I can't really judge the damptronics adjustement we have made so far because of the tires, i prefer to wait with other tires but i do feel a bit of roll at higher speed and when driven hard, like if the chassis or bars are starting to get more stress.. I don't know, we'll see.. Maybe changing something else will help getting the car even more planted and tight...
I also noticed a very noticeable difference with the throtle response and/or low-rpm torque. Difficult to know what is responsible for that: exhaust, intake or air filter, but the combo gives a very satisfying result, better than expected to be honest.
I've tried the fabspeed bypass exhaust but didnt like it. The Speedtech has no drone (low frequency in-cabin resonance) but at the same time it's a lower tone, more throaty than fab bypass and of course stock exhaust. The overall sound result is very satisfying; not too loud but noticeable and at high rpm it gives a very racy/1100cc+ motorcycle sound. However i have an annoying high frequency resonance that comes from somewhere, maybe inside the cabin, at about 5-6krpm, most probably it's not the exhaust' fault.. For the price i believe the exhaust to be a very good buy but i did not compared with other (more expensive) aftermarket exhaust.
Yellowstuff brake pads are very good either, a bit noisy but the high friction feeling was exactly what i was looking for: more direct brake pedal feel.
I can say i drive a very different car now, in a positive way!
Next step: OZ ultraleggera wheels + better tires
and maybe later the TPC single turbo kit

Here is the items i bought.
I don't really know what's wrong with the linkage part, but wasnt able to make it work. Also have problem with the reverse gear not going through with the short shift kit

anyone have experience with these two parts ?

Sounds like you're enjoying your 911 even more now!
Which one was your favorite?
I've done the OEM SSK, Bilstein Damp's, Tubi Exhaust, and HRE Wheels to my car so far and my favorite in terms of feel seems to be the Bilsteins Damp's.

Time proven mods for track use can make sense. But for street use watch out.

That's a bunch of miles. I would suspect the dampers to be worn out at that point. Wow, sounded like you were going to go nuts in the stereo department...
Your comments on the damptronics are like others; stiffer than the soft setting and not much different in the two settings. Most people say that they wouldn't touch the sport setting on the street, just too brutal. Funny that stock is too soft in normal and too stiff in sport.

88k miles is nothing for a stock Porsche suspension. I find it funny changing the stock suspension for the street trading it for a far less compliant one which will often lose grip on regular street surfaces. But... that's what people do. A far better investment is in DE for the driver, but that adds less bragging rights. And now I run for cover.

Thought about sway bars? .... I've added them to both my daily driver BMW coupe and now the Porsche. While I have the coilovers on both cars, the swaybars were the first mod on my BMW and arguably the biggest bang for the buck.

The rear suspension on my car was worn to the point of not passing the province mechanical inspection. I drove a c2s with only 10k miles so i know what it feels like in new condition.
To be honest, i would like a softer setting (normal mode) and an even stiffer one on sport mode. But it's okay...
I enjoyed my car so much today i wasnt able to stop going... uh.. nowhere finally!
Short shifter reverse gear issue is fixed (cable adjustment). I don't regret any of the modifications i've made.
*creepy voice*
But now i want more... MORE..!
