Check Engine light on after adding oil(No overfill)

I added oil to my 09 997S and didn't get the oil cap on properly.
Started the car and got rough idle, and check engine light on.
Went back and re adjusted the cap, all well with the idle, light still on.
Will it go out by itself, like the gas cap not tight, or do I need to get reset at dealer?
Sat, natch service closed at local dealers.

Take it for a drive.....may go out by itself IF not....dealer it is!
I would guess it will go out.
This is where Durametric software comes in handy......allows you to reset fault codes.

Yea, I know...
Just stupid of me, I thought the cap felt funny, but was in a hurry.
Some day Durametric!!
Thanks, just easier if it resets itself!!
Maybe it wants a FI system :>)

Durametric would definitely read and correct it. But for something that simple, likely any $75 OBD meter would do the same. So would the new Rev application for iPhone/iPod (I have no connection to any of these companies).

I experienced exactly the same problem. There is a little rubber gasket inside the filler cap which I somehow managed to smush when I (over?)tightened the cap. As a short-term fix the dealer simply removed and reinstalled the gasket, which solved the problem. They went ahead and ordered a replacement gasket, just to be on the safe side.

Did they have to reset the check engine light? Or did it go out by itself?

Don't know

When I got the CEL I immediatelyi took the car to the dealer. I know a loose gas cap can cause a problem but didn't realize that an air leak at the oil filler could do so as well. They took my car into the back, and when they brought it back out a few minutes later the CEL had gone out. Whether it was a result of fixing the air leak or clearing it on the computer, I'm afraid I don't know.
