installing 9500ci

i've done my research and decided to go with Escort 9500 ci.

i dont want to debate which radar detector or laser jammers are the best.

i know what i need and dont need.

i realize v1 has cult-like following.. and the LI is prob the best laser defense (along with rear parking sensor)

but i got a great deal on a 9500ci and the install price is very reasonable.

i wanted some opinions on where to install the components.

i would like a clean install but not at the expense of the performance.

so help me !

these are my current ideas:

radar receiver - under the center.. some do it behind the bumper or headlight, but i want it in the open

front laser shifters - infront of the radiator intake opening

control module - in the center stack i have a space between 'sport' button and 'psm off' button

display - near the steering column

speakers - near the drivers side foot well - tucked into the corner

usb - in the fuse box near the driver

gps antenna - in the driverside a-pillar

can some one verify if there is enuf room in there for a gps antenna?

hidden bi-color display - not sure what to do with these, yet

any ideas or help would be appreciated.

thx in adv !

Carlos, my advise:

I'd put the display in the cigerette ashtray

Drill a small hole in gauge cluster for the LED

Hide the center control module and usb port near the passenger side center lower console area

Place the module your putting the steering wheel in the iphone area (since I see your a fellow so. cal guy you know that this system is ILLEGAL in Killa Cali) remember you want to turn the system off once you get shot and once your within the speed limit

So far its saved me 4 times after only 3 months of owning! Recently though, its not picking up any CHP! Its solid for cops not for CHP! Looking into v1 also...

Carlos, the bulb can be very tricky and I'd advise that you only get a Ptech to do this but at any rate, depending on what angle you like your steering wheel it will change where I would advise you to place the LED bulb. I drilled it between the RPM and SPEED gauges.

The iphone area is where your right elbow lies (center console section?).

I can show you the install on my car if you want, pm me to meet up?

looks like u guys do awesome installs !!

unfortunately, SLO is a quite a drive.. very scenic on PCH.. but still not worth it for 9500 install only.

now if i was doing the turbo wing, thats a diff story !

getting it done at RSS in costa mesa.. along with techart springs and alignment

Those are nice units. A trade magazine I get (EETimes) for electronics engineering geeks like me had a good write up on the 9500ix and whats inside the box. Here is the link for those that are interested:

As a side note, you can remove the lettering from the display by soaking in simple green and using 90% alcohol and a rag to scrub them off. I didn’t want any tipoffs, mine is stealth.

here are some pics from other member's installs

the pics are named by the owners names.

the first set is for the display.

-i really love the in mirror.. but i dont have auto-dim so i dont think its possible (?)

-the above mirror is very nice.. but once again, not feasible (?) since i have a cab

-the in-the-glove-compartment doesnt work for me.

- will prob do it above steering column.. but raised up or not?

pics of control unit locations.

will prob mount it in the lower center console like my original plan.. but considering the in-the-ashtray location.. dont really like it left of the center console (see pic 3)
