Track question?

I notice that when people put their cars for sale, many will say " the car has never been tracked" This implies that tracking your car is abusive and lessens the value, does it not? Aren't our cars designed for some "aggressiveness" so to speak? Doesn't pushing the car even make it perform better? I remember reading a review where they tested a 997 that had been sent to many mags for review and it was even faster than the one they had tested earlier that was newer with less miles.

Tracking your car will put it under more stress then driving to work, however I have seen some people drive their cars around the track a lot slower and with less then intensity then others.

The statement seems to be an indicator for some as to how the car has been kept. I agree that they should be driven harder then most cars, short of a broken transmission cable, my car didn't have any warranty claims in four years. When looking at a car that has been tracked, it is important to see if the maintenance has been done, and how well the car has been kept.

typically, those who track their cars maintain them at a much higher level than those who don't...the general perception of not wanting a car that has been tracked can be misplaced when it comes to Porsches, although there can be more wear to items like the tranny and lsd

ps... I'm not talking about 1/4 mile tracking...all bets off there

I couldn't agree more Chuck... the converse to those who don't "track" their cars could be subject to other "issues" from under utilization.

Porsche warranty has specific clauses about non-covering track related damage. That is why it is quite typical to put this statement into sales ad.

The problem is that many people ( NOT 6speeders, of course ) who track their cars have no idea what the hell they are doing plus do not maintain the cars any better. While most competent tests over the last 10-15 years indicate that P-cars are a little bit quicker after 2-3000 miles, no race shop will deny that the more aggressive the driving the more wear and tear occurs.

Lastly, remember that the cup car engines last about 50 hours on the track and the RSR's only 25 hours.
