A few questions re suspension etc

Alrighty then: I was reading the post about the unstable feeling Porsche in high cross winds.

My Carrera as all test driven Carreras felt nose light at first. I think I am used to that and it doesnt bother me. However I have also felt my car needs a ton of concentration to keep it going straight in crosswinds. The Cayman before it felt more stable as did my M3 cars before that.

I have chalked it up to the car probably needing an alignment check which I was going to schedule pretty soon.

However I have torn between modding the car vs waiting till I can afford a GT3....and have decided to get KW coil overs. I have read as much about sway bars and am confused.

Some do front GT3 sways and others do both front and rear (which seems to make sense to me). Whatever I do, i want to do to make the car usable on the street but useful at the track and in this case low noise is preferable.

So whats the best way to go: Tarett/GT3 front rears?
Other aftrmarket ones?

I run H&R Front and Rear Sway bars, they are a direct bolt in on the Carrera, and with my CO's the car is very stable at high speeds (no light front end), and very easy as a DD. The KW's may be a little stiffer then the Damprontics for street use, but you should get use to it pretty quick.

I believe there are other sets that are direct bolt in's as well.

I think that suspension changes have little effect on steering sensitivity to cross winds. I would look into an alignment first.

you are getting stiffer springs so it is logical to get stiffer sways. Now, question is how much stiffer and for what purpose.
I run now only rear GT3 sway with stock C2 sway and stock springs for now and it generally helped to reduce understeer quite a bit. Putting both GT3 front and rear sways may not do what you expect it to do - check diameters of all those sways first. As I will finally put coilovers on may be I will need to change front sway bar too and get stiffier rear. Not sure.

Now as of what brand to get - there is a lot of smoke and mirrors there. I found it to be very difficult to find reliable info about actual aftermarket sway bars stiffness. Like TPC claims their bars are 50% stiffer than GT3 ones. So I question you - do you know you need them 50% stiffer than GT3 on your car? Plus some bars are hollow, some are solid, so diameter is not the only parameter there to look at.

Stiffness is somewhat in third power from bar diameter, and front sway usually is larger than rear. So if you want to cure understeer and you just get beefier complete set you may make issue worse than it was, plus all that sway stiffness has to match you springs stiffness more or less.

GT3 bars are cheap and IMHO for start offer best value. I picked up used GT3 rear sway with tarett droplinks for $300 total (compare it to $1700 TPC bars set) , front GT3 sway is $200 or so from suncoast. But to put on front sway bar IMHO is not a DIY job, I looked at it several times already and still do not know how the heck to pull it out from there.

It is a very common thing across people who track their 997 cars to put just GT3 rear sway bar on and keep stock one at front. So I am just copying that and so far it works quite well.

Idea behind Tarett droplinks is quite simple - they are adjustable and way beefier than stock so they will not bend at extreme pressure. I am yet to hear or see bended stock droplinks but, well, people say tarett matters. When I installed rear gt3 sway - stock droplinks do fit just fine and do not rattle.

totally true BTW, sways are about cornering behavior and understeer control. not so much about maintaining straight line - that is toe.

So if wandering in a straight line at speed, means toed out a bit from stock and hence better turn in at teh begining of a corner?
