1) If you have any financial doubts --DON'T do it.
Also if you do buy a car --do not buy the wrong car trying to save money . It's better to have no car (and savings) than the wrong car.

2) Do not buy an automatic Porsche . Get the PDK or a manual.
Automatics (tiptronic) are not only dated, but IMO --it actually ruins a great car , and is nearly impossible to sell because no one wants it.

3) AWD will NOT perform better in a tight corner . Both track versions of the 911 (Gt2 and gt3) are not AWD. The rear wheel drive car will not have as wide a rear but that's not always a bad thing (less ding exposure risk).

 

1) Short of winning the state lotto, I will always have doubts about the economy. Anyone who doesn't either is very well situated or foolish IMHO. I tend to be financially conservative and the price of a new 911 makes me pucker a bit. This is why I am thinking of a used car.

2) Do most Porsche drivers consider a PDK a non-auto? I assumed it would be looked at like an auto. I learned today that the lease rate for a 2010 PDK is higher than a standard transmission because the residual value is less on the PDK.

3) Good info, and good example with the GT's. I will consider this, but still like the wide look!

Try Newport auto if in orange county they have a 2010 C4S 6 speed cab and man it's sweet, marked used with 100 miles on it! I bet you could get that for 90k +tax listed at 121k, I looked at it but they wouldn't give me a good deal on my 6speed GTS

 

Was there today. If it is black and out front, I looked at it. 90K? They don't seem to ready to deal. I figured I would have to go to Riverside to do a decent deal.

I saw a show on the making of the Bugatti Veyron and they referred to the double clutch transmission as a 'computer controlled manual'.

 

1) You will do very well in negotiating your first Porsche because you are aware of the value of the purchase. We can go over new Vs used but if PDK is the choice over manual .. my vote goes to a new car . If a manual is considered I would be open to the used car idea. I can detail my reasoning further if you would like.

2) PDK is an auto manual . It is not an automatic transmission although it does have the capability to drive in automatic mode . It is not manual with a left foot pedal . It is better than both in many ways. It offers a choice to drive with high speed efficient shifting better than a race driver OR a automatic in gridlock traffic. It is highly sophisticated yet simple to drive once one has some time with the car.

3) Then the C4S is the car and with PDK as well as the revised body styling and engine upgrades (including axle lock standard) of this particular model ... ot leans even more towards a new car .

 

i think it's interesting how people love the "widebody look"... i know you can tell the difference, but isnt it weird that the widebody cars aren't realy that much wider than the NB variants? seriously, in socal a C2S is really all you need.

don't be worried about the economy... if you have a great business, you will be fine. my friend's practice has continued to thrive over the past couple of years. but, if you are still concerned, then i say go for the value play... i think the value is in 6sp 2006-2008 car... if you can spend $60K vs. $90K, why not? Pay 60K, test it out for a couple of years, you dont like it... sell it for $45 and you are only out $15K for 2 years which is a small hit relative to the car.

 

Paul, ask for Twee (I'm butchering her name) she's helpful, the car is in the showroom and is black on black C4S cab (no sports chrno). They offered me pretty good deal probably cause I'm repeat with them plus I asked them to take off the rim's that they have on it as a 12K (if I'm not mistaken) but again no dice on my trade off, otherwise I'd luv to have that puppy
