In my dreams...

In my dreams I am driving a 2010 C4S Cab in Macadamia with PDK. While awake at the wheel, I am driving a 335 BMW that is getting close to being sold for a new car. I am not sure I am ready to make a $120K commitment on a new Porsche and am considering a used 911. I know I will have to get a 2009+ to get the PDK, and am considering a standard transmission in a pre-09 version.

Is there any location on the web that you know of that details the model year v.s. issues or problems associated with that year? I know some years are more prone to expensive issues than other years but don't know what to look for.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Paul

it really depends on what you are looking for... have you driven both cars? There is extensive info on which year to avoid/get for a used 997. I would recommend getting a car with great history and or CPO if you are going that route (this is what I did). The 2010 models are really nice, but there a pre-owned 997 is a great way to "live your dream" and get familiar with these lovely cars. Good luck.

My suggestion is to research / read everything you can on this forum regarding reliability for the model years that your interested in. Also, check out the Rennlist website for even more info on these cars. But overall, it's a very dependable and well built piece of machinery.

We sold our 335 coupe last summer to buy our 4S and honestly, I've never been more satisfied with a purchase.

Do it because there really is no substitute. Good luck on your search!

Why would you get a C4S in Orange County instead of a C2S? I don't see the need for awd.

It will be a lot more stable in SoCal's heavy rains, and the C4/C4S may well be the easiest 911 to drive fast...

McKenna has a 2007 C2S listed at $54K. The car is CPO (warranty till 2013), has turbo wheels, and 23K miles on the clock. I didn't like the car because of the sea blue interior. Even if it's not for you, it's worth checking out. Talk to Brian Buttacavoli, and take the car out... they'll let you take it on the 105 from the carpool lane entrance.. it will give you a chance to gun it and see what the car is all about...

I just want to be careful with my money in this economy so I am considering for the first time a used car. I am a dentist and have been lucky that my business is doing well, but I am seeing a little slowdown. If it slows down a bunch ( knock on wood it doesn't ) I hate to be car-poor because of an extravagant purchase.

I took a nice test drive in a brand new 09 cab C2 with PDK. Drove beautifully. The engine sounded very different from what I expected so I am not sure if it was OK. Honestly the sound of the engine made me pass on that car, which I now regret, but I guess it wasn't meant to be at that time. ( was a few months ago ) Now I am a little more ready to make a purchase and am pondering new vs used vs keep driving what I have...

My local dealer doesn't seem too willing to talk price, so I think I will have to go a little out of area for either a new or used car.

Glad to see a driver that went from a 335 to 911 and was very satisfied. To be honest, I have been enjoying the heck out of my 335 and wouldn't be happy unless the 911 was a few steps up in performance. I have the driving characteristics dialed in pretty well on the 335 and am consistantly pleased with it's performance... except when a turbo is down, or a fuel pump is broken, etc. The car has "broken" more than ANY other car I have owned. I won't keep it over 49,999 miles... One mile less than the warranty.

Two reasons. One a for-sure reason and the other possibly a mistaken reason.

1) I am partial to wide rear ends.
2) Belief ( maybe mistaken ) that this car will handle better in tight corners even with the weight penalty. Is this a mistaken belief?

Half my reasons. I usually drive very carefully in the rain, but hope it will drive fast around dry corners better than the C2S. Also, like the wide rear...

Will look into that car. Price is GREAT and will cost less to drive than my 335 which was that cost. I have already decided that I won't buy an auto unless it is the PDK, so that one will have to be a standard transmission to be a consideration.

Thanks all for the info. Will be searching the online auto trader website for used and new 911's in my area. Will be driving my 911 4S Macadamia Cab as soon as my head hits the pillow later tonight...
