How do you work your clutch for fast getaway? 6 speed manual only
Please 6 speed only - I've read the manual and know how to set to sports+ mode in PDK models :-)
We all think we are "experts" but any advice from the real experts here?

With my C4S, I am very concerned about putting excessive loads on the driveline from a standing start, due to the all wheel traction. With my Mustang, I could drop the clutch, light up the rear tires, and drive away. With the Porsche I launch relatively softly, then floor it as soon as I'm rolling - maybe being cautious, but it make's me feel better. I think a RWD could be launched a bit harder.

Yeah ~ I used to just drop the clutch at 4000+ all the time in my 2007 C2S but am more careful with the 2009 C4S... Feels a lot heavier at the start with the AWD traction... and I think its this feel that just deters me from dropping the clutch...

I think it's pretty funny. I usually try hard throttle launches after I've released the clutch to save on the clutch wear. Funny thing is, I get a ton of axle tramp, like I got in my '64 VW Bug. Guess it's that rear wheel, rear engine thing! I get it pretty easily with not much wheel spin. The car really shudders too. Everyone else just launch at higher RPM and the tires light up like any other car?

After reading all the various articles about the horrors of severe wheel hop you get when trying to get the perfect hard launch in a 911, I have avoided trying the typical "rev it and dump the clutch" routine. However, in my attempts to perform a good fast getaway, I succeeded in getting a good launch only to be accompanied by the dreaded burning clutch smell, so now I just get the car rolling and then nail it. Probably not the fastest technique, but it seems to be the least abusive.

Agreed on the wheel hop thing. I decided to drop the clutch for a hard launch the other day on my new-to-me car and did NOT like that hop. It felt like it could not have been good for the car!

Wheel spin is just poorly controlled, wasteful application of power... why would anyone want that. The fastest, and best for the car, getaway is one that doesn't look impressive at all to the average viewer... it quick, quiet (except for the engine revs) and smooth. Getting the car moving with normal clutch activation and once its engaged, then floor it and shift.

A little wheelspin done correctly can be a good thing - think tire/pavement slippage vs. clutch slippage (I'd rather replace tires than clutches). Having said that, I repeat my previous point - I am not comfertable trying to break loose all 4 tires from a standing start in my C4S - so, "Getting the car moving with normal clutch activation and once its engaged, then floor it and shift" is exactly what I do

Guys if you actually tried it a few times you'd know you don't get wheel hop if you don't load up too much. Seriously!!!! There is a sweet spot for launching that doesn't burn your clutch if you dump it right.

All helpful input. I've been struggling to get a 0-60 time with my new TPC turbo and a borrowed Gtech from Stacy(justatoy). I wish I had a private runway so I could practice! As it is, I've been parking in the breakdown lane on the highway, waiting for traffic to clear and flooring it! I haven't been able to get the Gtech to track the time as it thinks I'm doing a 1/4 mile run. From my own personal comfort perspective and reflecting my anxiety about the clutch, I like to get the car moving and then floor it. Feels much more comfortable but I'm not convinced it gives the best 0-60 time.

try the dynolicious app for 0-60 etc..
