Short Shift Installation Instructions

Short Shift Installation Instructions
Hi all,
I searched high and low for instructions on how to install a short shift kit in my 997 and was not able to find instructions on this board. I did find it at B&M's website, however:
http://www.bmracing.com/bmracing/ins...ruction/67.pdf
Hope that helps a fellow DIY 6speeder who's looking to do the mod.
Cheers

The B&K instructions are useless with respect to the very first step, removing the shifter boot. Several other folks have pointed me to some photos, and I think I maybe have figured it out (though I'm waiting for a warm, sunny day to try it again). The good news is that the previous try crashed right at the start of the process rather than halfway through. The bad news is that poor information right at the start perhaps bodes poorly for some of the later, more critical steps.

I did this installation just the other day. It was very straight forward as all the various instructions have shown. Mine was an MY09 so an extra step was to undo the multimedia/iPod interface in the armrest. It's definitely a must do mod.
***IF YOU ARE DOING THIS MOD YOURSELF***
To save yourself a trip to the dealer, you want to disconnect the battery. During the install you will be unplugging the harness to the center console (the plug is located under the tray in front of the shifter) which has wires running to the "passenger airbag" light. This will trip the airbag malfunction warning and you'll have to go to the dealership to get it resetted. Do yourself a favor and disconnect the battery first. I haven't tried this method but I found out about it by searching "airbag warning short shift install" on various forums. Your airbag malfunction light will not go away after a while as I have hoped... it's still on as a matter of fact. Need to stop by the dealer... maybe when I need more oil...
