Yikes! Paint chipping off!

I just started doing my summer car-washing ritual here in Sunny NJ, and was surprised to see that the front edges of plastic skirts behind the rear wheels don't have any paint left on them! I guess there is no protectant in this area, and stones were being kicked up by the rear wheels.
Does anyone know of some tiny mud-flaps or something that can cover this area??
i bought a Dr Colorchips kit, but I have my doubts about it's ability to fix this extent of damage. Too bad I got the clearBra everywhere else but in those 2 spots!
Any ideas would be appreciated

I don't know where you can get the mudflaps, but I hvae owned two 997S, and both have suffered paint damage right behind the rear wheels. My damage has not been as extensive as what you describe, and is not as bad on my current 997S as the previous one. I have tried to be more careful with this one since I experienced the damage on my first one, but despite my efforts, I do have some chips.

Most 997S cars I have seen have some paint damage behind the rear wheels, and for that matter, the regular 997 with the slightly smaller tires, also has it I guess. I have known some people to put the clear bra material in that area, but some have told me not to do it because you get a nasty dirt line around the edge of the film, and road oil and tar can discolor it and cause it to deterioriate. I guess you take your poison, but your damage sounds pretty bad.

Thanks for the reply! I think it is bad in my particular case because I live in a semi-rural area and there are lots of little stones on the roads.
I did a search for items to protect the area, and came up with some JC whitney screw-on mud-flaps. If memory serves me correctly, one had Yosimite Sam on it with the inscription, "Back Off!"
LOL!

No mudflaps on a 911. Use touch up paint.

How about a few photos of the damaged areas? This would be most helpful.

Sorry to hear that.

When I got my first 997, I went to Premier to have the clear bra installed.

These guys had installed the film on countless 997s and they knew the car better than I did -- They kindly recommend to install a small piece of clear bra film around the arch of the rear wheel. I think the cost was a few tens of dollars, yet it was one of the best advises I got from them. This little piece of film did do magic to protect the area from rockchips.

I think if you go to your dealer, it could recommend a local bodyshop that might be able to just spray the damage area behind the rear wheel. Then after the paint is settled, you might have your local clear bra installer to add a small piece of film behind the rear wheel like mentioned above.

With best regards,

I am trying to find my camera's USB cable! My dogs have very guilty looks on their faces at the moment!!

I took a cell phone pic, but it is just looking like there is a lighter spot there. I have a meteor grey car and the metallic can hide it without a flash. I will see if I can get something up in a few hours.
I was stupid when I had the clearBra done. I wrongly assumed that porsche would put some protectant there, like on the rocker panels! If I get the Dr Colorchip to work, I will do before and after pics. It worked great on smaller chips....

You will need to get this area repainted. Allow the paint to cure for approximately 30 days and have a paint protection film strip applied to this area. A good installer will be able apply the clear bra to this area and follow the shadow line to hide the seams. Good luck!

Thanks for giving me some direction in this situation. I wonder if a good shop can just spray the corner and not do the entire bumper. I cringe to think that they would have to match a metallic color!
I definitely have to get a letter out to porsche asking for some protection there on future models. They put black plastic guards in front of the wheels, but nothing behind them
I don't want mud-flaps, but maybe some of that thicker orange-peel paint they put on the rockers?
Anyway, my dog ate my USB cable and they are shipping me another one and will do some pics of before/after I try the ColorChip stuff.
Blame the little guy in the pic below for the delay! I didn't know that USB cables were so tasty!

Before the damage occurs, the best thing to do is add clear, protectant film to that area in two layers with the outer layer being slightly wider than the under layer. When the grease line or discoloration gets too bad to live with you simply tear off the top layer and have a new top layer for about $50.00......FWIW.....

I'm fortunate to have a really, really good film guy who recommended this when the car at 30 miles on it and everything was still pristine.
