Service light

Hello all. Quick question for those who know more than me. I have a 2006 S. It sat for about 2 weeks without being started. I went out this weekend and started it to leave. The engine sounded a little loud and the service light came on and the message indicator told me to take it for service. I allowed the car to idle about 2 minutes and the light went out. I restarted and no light. I drove the car with no problem. The car is not low on oil. Has this happened to any of you folks? I thought mabe an oil issue since all the oil had settled? Just checking if this happens. I have had this car for two years and this is a first. Thanks for any guidance.

Scott

From what I understand the service message is to remind you that the car is due for service based on time or mileage (as in the 20K service). Not sure why it went out and has not come back though. Usually it remains until it is reset by either the dealer or Durametric.

I think he means the check-engine light, not the 'service due' reminder light.

But in I got that wrong:

As stated by MJFDDS, the service reminder comes on at a certain mileage OR a certain time, whichever comes first. So if it was time for service.. it may tell you in advance (my 2009 said something about service due soon well before it got to service due now).

If some rough running is caused by fluids settling... gas getting stale, etc... then the temporary glitch in the running can trigger a fault in the engine or exhaust system that throws a light and once the car gets warm and back to normal mode, the light clears.
