Decision Time - Help Needed!

Well - I typed in a search for 997S cars in your region . I used Rockaway Beach ( grew up there) as origin point . I saw the one you are looking at in NJ and looked to see if there were any others. I also found this one with a lot less miles and all the options . It's not a CPO but that might work toward a better deal. Atlas is very similar to Meteor (I like both) . I did not see anything else in your price range. South Florida has cars though but that's far. http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...e&rdpage=thumb
There's no shortage of cars in case they let you walk.

We are seeing more and more threads where people are claiming they cant find cars. You will not be able to get this for 73k. If they were willing to take that it would be gone by now.
What happened last years is not relevant now. It will take 78k or so to get this car. And if you can get it for 78k I say go for it.

So very true!! A real shame for buyers, but it is a reality that many on this board just don't get. I'd like to hear some recent stories about great deals on CPO cars from dealers. I think they're few and far between. More easily found in the private market, but then usually no CPO. Also, those deals are not as good as they were previously, although there's a better chance of getting a bargain from someone out of touch with the market and in a bind for cash.
Good luck!

What happened with sales last year is very relevant. The production numbers for 09 cars differ greatly than the 2010 . In fact to this day we can still see the launch cars selling for less because there were so many of the same car.
The overall economic data is hardly an ideal Porsche buying climate. The Euro is weak , the stock markets worldwide have dipped, real estate has depreciated more than Porsche in some regions. Luxury retail purchases are certainly up for negotiation and if he keeps his money in his pocket instead of buying a car I would hadly call him the loser . All the cards are in his hand and the deck is stacked in his favor.
If you have any doubts .. try getting an offer on a trade in .
I stand by 75K as the limit. He wins either way.

I was at my dealer last week. They said they are having a big problem sourcing cars. Very very few clean cars around. They got excited when they got a line in a clean used car. They were hurrying around to send their people to go take a look. This shouldn't surprise since sales were down the last couple years. Just means less used cars to sell
if you find a clean car that meets your specs then jump on it if the price is close

Thanks everyone for the advice.
Option #1 is the overwhelming choice and the way I was leaning anyway )I guess I just needed validation).
I'll check it out further this week and let you all know what happens.

I got my 09 base carerra with 19 inch wheels & pdk for $67K. It had 5000 miles on it and also CPO'ed. That was also about 4 months ago. I agree that $80k is a little high, especially for a car with 13k.

That's a great deal, it seems that the prices have risen somewhat since then - bad news for me!

hmm...83k
it is high for sure. one thing people dont seems to know is that you never EVER pay sticker price on a high end car like this. i think yrralis1 is on the low side saying offer 73k. that is enough for the dealer to laugh at. I say offer 75k. they will come back with 80k. keep stong and say how about 78. they will either take 78 or be between that and 80.
he is right on his points tho, it is a full year old and someone put a lot of miles onto it. and since 83k buys you a new non-S you have something to base your prices off of.
EDIT: my 05 C2S i just bought was listed at the dealer as 49,995 and i paid 46 even. 4k off I was happy.

My 07 CPO was stickered at $62,500.00 and I got them down to $54,000.00...and, all done through email. This was at the end of January.
Depends on how badly you want the car. I walked a few times as the $54,000.00 mark was still at the very high end of my budget.
Good luck!
Steve
PS: This is common sense car buying and selling---make 2 separate deals. Dont let them know you want to trade in a car until AFTER you strike the best deal on the car you want to buy. And then, dont make it about one big deal...Buy a car, one deal..sell a car, separate deal. You will do MUCH better and it wont be as convoluted or confusing...Car dealers want the deals to be convoluted and confusing, btw.

83K -6640= 76360 to be propotioally in line with your deal.
I say offer 73 and close at 75 . They have more wiggle room on an 09 than your CPO 05 . AND --I am pointing him to a better proportinal deal. It's harder for a dealership to get near 80 grand for a used Porsche than to get in the mid 40's . Most who want the used car are shopping the 45K range and less are shopping the 70's and 80's.

4K off from 49995 = 6640 off from 83K
