Lowering car-headlights need adjustment?

Lowered my 997 one inch. I have xenon headlights. Do I need to adjust the headlights since my car now sits one inch lower?

If both front and back were lowered by the same amount, that is, the angle of the car's plane was not changed, then no adjustment is needed as lights are aimed relative to a point on the lamp and the actual lamp height has no impact on that.

If the front got lowered more than the back, you need to adjust up the lamps slightly, for example, since your lamps will then not illuminate far enough down the road. If the ride was raised, then there might be an issue of lowering the aim to keep from blinding other drivers.

What is the procedure for adjusting the beam height? I feel that my low beams are cutting off a bit short, and there is a visable "step" in the low beam pattern (left side cuts a little shorter than right).

High beams are awesome.

TIA,

Phil

The step you reference is there by design to help eliminate glare in the oncoming lane from the low beams. Mine are exactly the same.

I understand the reason for the cutoff - but:

1. My left and right side are not the same - I find that a bit distracting.

2. I would the cutoff to happen a bit further down the road - on dark nights, I would like to be able to see more ahead of me while on low beams.

You cannot change how far the cuttoff is down the road. That all depends on the road. PTP is correct the step in the light is there on purpose. You can adjust your headlights to point up a bit more (i guess that would make it happen further down the road) but there is a correct height and thats why it is checked at inspection time. I do not think there is a way to actually remove the step all together. As I recall it is build into the lights.

In the owners manuel, there is instruction on how to adjust the UP and Down Level of your headlights. You cannot adjust the Lft /RHt angle of the headlights. I did adjust my lights Higher and level to suit my driving preference.
