A/C Issue: Can't Find the Leak...

A friend of mine just purchased a 2010 Carrera and within a few days of getting the car it started having A/C issues. A/C slowly put out less and less cold air to a point it quit altogether. Dealer recharged the system and all was fine...for a couple of days and then it would go bad again. Now the car's been in the shop all week with multiple recharges with leak dye and a "sniffer" but still no success in locating the leak.

Anyone with a similar A/C issue or know of someone that went through a tough to solve A/C issue? My friend is getting pretty disheartened. It's his first Porsche that he longed for the last couple of years and the shop has had the car longer than he has.

Never had that problem. Sorry to hear that. I would bring it back since it is obviously leaking coolant for the A/C.

Brand new car. They have what - 3 tries to fix - and then it lemons? Seems nuts just AC. Maybe another service center with a better mechanic or one with the guts to deal with the real issue. Upside is what a great time of year to test the AC and make sure it is really working.

NC " Lemon Law" states that a car qualifies if it is in for the same repair 4 times, or it is in for warranty service for a total of 20 days. The car is at Leith Porsche in Cary, NC (Raleigh). Hopefully they've got the expertise to get this thing fixed.

UPDATE: My friend is being told the cause is a leaking schrader valve. Unfortunately that is the same reason he was given two weeks ago so he's not holding his breath that this is the real cause. I'll keep the updates coming in case someone else runs into a similar issue.

Geez.. even a good shade tree mechanic has a freon leak detector. This should have been found in the first visit.

A leaking Schrader valve should be an easy, cheap fix.
For those not mechanically inclined here, it is nothing more than a type of valve like that valve stem on your wheels for your air (or nitrogen). It might look a bit different in the A/C line (it's actually a bit bigger), but it works on exactly the same principal.
