you snooze you looze
For several months I have been thinking about trading my base 09' 997 for a turbo or GT3. I have never driven either so I am not sure which would be the best fit for me. Today, while driving by the lot of a local dealer who shall remain unnamed, I noticed a pristine 07 turbo and GT3 side by side. I decided to pull in and have a look. After giving both cars the once over I decied I wanted to drive them both back to back and make a fair comparison. The salesman replied by saying "let's work out the numbers first, these are expensive cars and we don't want to put miles on them". I looked at him incredulously and pointed out that I actually drive cars before I make a decision to buy them, not vice versa. He refused.. I walked out.. end of story. I did write a letter to the owner of the dealership describing my experience. As a business owner myself I always appreciate client feedback. Mind you I bought my first 911 from them in 1993 and have bought several cars in the interim. To say I was insulted is a mild understatement. Needless to say this salesperson missed out on what could have been a sale today.

I did not ask for the manager. I instead went home, wrote and mailed a letter to the President of the dealership and described in great detail the condescending nature of this particular salesperson. It was their pre owned lot and there were only three people there so I'm sure they will know exactly who it is. Moreover, I was greeted in Spanish while the salesperson would have no idea at that time if I spoke Spanish or not.

I've been treated in similar - and worse - ways and that's why I don't buy used cars from dealerships. I don't care of the care is CPO, inspected, whatever - I've seen some terrible CPO cars that were abused auction garbage, touched-up and passed off as perfect.
I'll go look at dealerships but it's generally not worth spending the extra $$ and not worth the hassle of dealing with salespeople (of course there are good ones, but not many - esp. here in the SF Bay Area).
Go private, get to know the ins and outs of the car, and know when to walk away if anything <anything> smells fishy ("buy the seller"). You'll have a much better experience and might even make some solid friends as I've done buying and selling personal cars.

If you want to see a turbo you are welcome to see mine . I don't think you will buy a Gt3 over it but I do feel it's the car to get beside it .

This is not what i have experienced in new cars . all three dealerships have been great --- but when it comes to used cars it's another world .
