Bluetooth Phones and 997.2 PCM 3.0
I currently have a 2009 997.2 C4S with the PCM 3.0 and the Bluetooth Module and it works very nicely hands-free in the car with my Bluetooth capable cellphone, a Motorola RAZR2 V9. I am looking to get a newer smartphone (either an iPhone4, an HTC Incredible, or a couple other Samsung models) but I don't want to get it until I can be assured it it will pair up and work with the PCM 3.0 in my car. The Porsche website only lists 19 phones which they have tested for compatability with Bluetooth and they are all older models and none of the ones I am looking for (my current Motorola phone is on that list). PCNA doesn't have any further info to help and the Porsche dealer just gives a blanket statement saying that "all Bluetooth phones should work", which doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy feeling.
Does anyone out there have any feedback, good or bad, on how their cellphones are working on 997.2 cars with PCM 3.0 and Bluetooth? And especially any feedback on how they work with the newer phones I am looking at: iPhone 4, HTC Incredible, HTC Eris, HTC Aria, Samsung Mythic, or the Samsung Impression. Thanks.
For what it's worth, the Bluetooth set-up with Voice Recognition in my 997.2 works really well, in fact better than in my Acura or my Infiniti, which is amazing to me. The Japanese do a really good job with their electronic integration of NAV systems, SAT radios, iPod, etc (usually much better than the Germans), but they fall short with their Bluetooth integration. They require the user to set-up "voice tags" for each contact you want to call via Bluetooth and voice recognition, which is a pain in the ***. The Porsche set-up is amazing: it downloads your entire cellphone phonebook into the PCM 3.0 and when you use voice recognition to make a call to someone on your call list it somehow knows and "recognizes" the name and makes the call. A big plus for the Germans!!!

iPhone4 works perfectly.

HTC Eris doesn't properly sync the phonebook, so avoid that one - could be an issue with any HTC for all I know or addresses from Outlook - PITA though.
My wife's Moto Droid works fine as did my old RAZR.

Your solution is simple...
Go the Cell phone provider you want to buy the phone from and tell them you will buy this phone only it it pairs and works well in your car. They will pair it with you car and then you can test it out. Also all of the providers allow you to return within a certain time frame if you do not want the phone.

Sayboy, SCOPEIT, and MNC4S, thanks for the input on the iPhone 4 working well with the newer cars. And thanks StevePow for the input on the HTC not working so well. I really appreciate the feedback. Any more inputs (either positive or negative) would still be appreciated. Thanks.

iPhone and Phone Book Transfers
I have an iPhone 4.0 and the pairing works fine. The problem is that not all of my phone book transfers, ever. I have around 4000 addresses and not all of them seem to transfer. Is there some sort of limit? Transfers when the car is first started take about 10 minutes. This happens on either of my Porsches, so it is not the car only the PSM 3.

Wow, thought I was the only one still using a Motorola RAZR. I'm also in the process of buying a Smart phone but the PCM in my 2005 997S didn't come with Bluetooth. Oh well, I'm not good at talking and driving a manual anyway so I try to avoid taking any calls from the car.

The thing that is needed from the PHONE side is the bluetooth HFP (hands free profile). I would wager that all bluetooth cell phones these days support that profile.
If you are concerned, go to a store and have the store person walk out to your car with a store model and demo that it will pair up and work. Should not be an issue (if the store isn't the usual slammed busy).
In this day and age, I'd think you would find it the rare exception that a phone does not work with bluetooth HFP and the address book sync.
