Clear bra installed - North Carolina

I know some of you are dead set against putting a clear bra on your P-car, but my experience shows me that I'm destined to be a magnet for small stones and whatever else the open road has to throw at me. In fact the second day I owned my new '10 Carrera, I caught a rock in the windshield that was so big I could see it coming. I wasn't following too closely; a pick-up passing me in the left lane on a 4-lane highway kicked it up as he went by.. my heart went to my throat.. but at least it didn't break the windshield.

I owned a '07 Mini Cooper S for a short period - worst car I've ever owned. It spent more time in the shop than it did at my house. But that's another thread.. I had the dealer in Winston-Salem install a clear bra on it prior to taking delivery. I was impressed with the installation, and the way it protected the front leading edges of the car during the eight months I owned it.

I knew when I bought my P-car last month that I'd have a clear bra installed, so I called Bruce at Xpel in Winston-Salem to see if he's still in business, and if he could do my car. He is, and he said 'you bet'..

I drove up (120 miles) to Winston-Salem early this past Friday to have the bra installed. It took him about four hours, and I couldn't be happier. I had the entire front facia done, the hood (23" up from the leading edge), front fenders (on a line drawn across from the line of the bra on the hood), and the mirrors. He did both door edges and both 'coves' where you put your fingers when opening the doors at no charge.

It's a shame to pay for something you can't see, but to me it's worth every penny of what I paid for a the peace of mind knowing that I won't be quite as susceptible getting stone chips on the front end of the car.

Bruce is a helluva interesting guy who retired from a job at H&K, then got bored and started doing clear bras 6 or 7 years ago. He does clear bras for the high-end car dealers in the W-S area, and for anyone else who wants it done. Since he started installing bras he's done 1600+ cars, so you gotta figure he knows what he's doing. I'm a stickler for details, and I couldn't find any places on the car that I wasn't satisfied with.

If you're in the W-S or central NC area and are interested in getting an estimate on getting a clear bra for your car, call Bruce Horton at Xpel of the Triad at 336.414.3390. Tell him Chris sent you (no, there's no 'bird dog' fee for me.. I just like the guy, and I like his work).

I'd post a picture of my car, but you couldn't see his work, and isn't that the whole deal anyway...

After several prior experiences using with the vinyl bras on other cars, I also opted for the 3M Clear Bra on my C2S. I love it. A lot less hassle, looks a lot nicer (if you notice it) and plenty of peace of mind when running the interstate and when the bugs are flying.

Thanks for the contact info. I won't own another car without it. But I've opted for the full hood/full fenders, simply because I don't like that line that appears after a while on some that I've seen.

I've seen the full treatment and that looks nice as well. A smart choice to protect your investment.

I'm getting the 3M in a couple days on mine - had the car for a year and 13k miles later I've got some hood chips from rocks, etc. It's gotta stop and this should hopefully minimize the damage.

I put a 3M clearbra on mine even though it already had 18000 miles on it when I bought it. The paint was clear (no chips) and I wanted the peace of mind knowing there was some protection. My Cayman S before the 997 looked like it had measles by the time I sold it because I didn't do a clearbra. I have it on my RRS as well.

I can't speak highly enough of the stuff. It will find its' way on all of my future vehicles.

I'm not sure either but my installer gave me a bottle of 3M Performance Wax. I haven't tried it yet might it seems to be a wipe on/wipe off cleaner & wax.

Good luck.

Not sure about tire marks but my installer said I could use any high quality cleaner/wax that I would use on the rest of the car.

I've tried the above, it doesn't work too well. I'm waiting for a more simple yet unorthodox approach - like glass cleaner or something.
