There are as there are in this forum. We always advise a new buyer to get a PPI.
A proper PPI should have a paint meter reading test and that can tell if any panel has been painted. If yes, the value goes down. Maybe not allot, but it will go down.
More and more people go after diminshed value after an accident.

I know all about getting my car damaged, as my first 997 was rear ended by a garbage truck, it had $30,000 in damage and my insurance company fixed it. I never drove the car again, instead I bought my current car, and sold the 1st car after it spent 5 months in the body shop. I took a $25,000 hit on the value do to the major accident, and after dealing with this one, I came to realize it is just a car, and it can be replaced. The damage that Larry's car took is minor and should have any bearing on the value of a car. Obviously my thoughts are shared by others.

I agree with Ed.......
I use to work in a port WHERE new cars came in off the boat and out of 1,000 cars 10 would need some kind of paint work....
Marine damage, water damage, dings, dents or even full on hits...alot worse than posted by the OP.
YES all these cars got painted in the bodyshop, and would never be told to the person who had the car ordered!
If it was frame damage it had to be declared and sold as a 'B' car(demo)...if the panel could be unbolted, painted and replaced....it was considered fine!
I would love to know how many of our cars sustained some sort of damage along the way.....you may even be driving one and paid full price for it!
IMO..when fixed CORRECTLY(key word correctly),a small repair like that will NOT depreciate the car.....
NOW IF it is a major hit...that IS a different story!
I think too many people read too much into these small repairs......
Just my $.02,
Stacy

Its all about whats known about the car and what a buyer will tolerate.
I would not buy a used porsche without a paint meter reading. No matter what the damage was caused by if a panel is repainted I would ask for a discount. The amount of the discount would depend on the cause of the damage and this is where pictures would help as mentioned above.

With the proper documentation and the photo's a small amount of damage like this wouldn't stop me from moving forward on the purchase of a car. Personally I think if anyone tries to make a big deal out of something this small, then I think that there is something wrong with that person. Don't get me wrong, nobody wants to get a car that has been damaged, but lets face it this is very minor.

Yep, accidents suck and I've had my share. I owned an M5 for a little over 2 moths before I was t-boned and the car was totaled. At the time, I was devastated. Since then some things have happened in my life where I now have ZERO emotional attachment to material objects. Bring on the paint chips.

The financial aspect goes like this --
A painted panel with the photographs of a scratch like mine is about 1500 less in trade . Two pained panels woud be 3K .
The more damage the worse it is but the absolute worst is structural damage which my car does not have. If a car had gaps and paint .. kiss at least 10K off --maybe more .
I leased a car with a painted panel once and got a lower price but it was a short term lease . I would never buy a new car with paint -dealerships do have to disclose it and in the case of the BMW 330i I had leased years ago they did disclose it in writing before I signed the papers .
Remember I had gotten my car appraised on a Gt3RS . I wold expect about 1500K less in trade. The key thing I am also doing is getting it fixed at the dealership .. this way if I ever trade it .. it was fixed by them .
If i sell it privately --I have pictures and documentation that every effort was made to bring the car as close as possible to perfect and it is otherwise pristine .
Being honest and giving disclosure lays out all the cards face up . Most used shoppers really dislkie doubts more than looking at the facts and being informed.

For me it's not the money that ,atters most -- it's looking at the car and knowing it's been tainted.

work was done in best RI shop and paint meter does not show anything.
paint is totally same even under direct sun in polarized sunglasses.
it just had to be done right. same thing was doen to my lexus - they repainted door and partially fenders and rear door, everything is invisible.
they just say as they do not bake this new paint as hard as stock paint - one should be more careful, but paint compound on new porsches is sh$tty anyway compared to what it was before so i guess it does not matter.

front fender isn't painted . Dent specialists save 100 percent of the car's original value. The door would count =1500.

Larry, really...this small dent will not matter when you go to sell or trade in your car. I am positive you will have it fixed correctly and no one will be able to tell. Not saying that for you not to tell anyone..but I would not tell the dealer when I go to trade in the car.
I had a dent like this on my 2003 BMW 740i...traded the car in and never said a word and the dealer looked everything up and never said a word and I doubt they ever new or now one will ever know.
You car is not "tainted" it's just a 09 Carrera S...how many of these cars have been built...no real biggy...not a collectors car and this ding will not devalue the car.
OR....
erase - erase - erace- yes Larry the car is now tainted...it's worth 1/2 the value so now you can take it to the track and not feel bad...yeah that's it.....sign up and request me as your instructor! ;-)

LOL --The dent is not the issue once it's removed . That also applies to dings . any paintless dent removal is considered zero depreciation.
Paint --on the other hand is not as well received -especially if there's overspray .
The worst case scenario obviously is a severlerely damaged or flooded car .. but even one small painted panel on a structurally sound car will diminish value a little . But then again so will other things .
I would rather buy a car with a painted door than one which has crumbs on the floor, or ashes in the ash tray , or swil marks from car washes .
Even though the car is "tainted" I try to keep the car as healthy as it can be for as long as I have it .
