it happens after service in 60000km when i changed all plugs in Porsche Service

 

The ignition coils are in a location where they are subject to road spray. Apparently it is very common to have misfire issues with a Porsche after a few years of service where roads are salted. At about 38000 miles, I had a check engine light due to coil misfiring, 3 of them at once. Ended up having all 6 replaced as they all looked deteriorated.

My shop said that it was common to have multiple failures in a short period of time. If you get this type of misfire, don't use heavy throttle or drive the car very far. The unburned fuel will poison the catalytic converter.

I had all of my ignition coils replaced after 5 years on the road and 35k miles. I think the previous owner drove in the snow some so the salt was probably a factor. The dealer said they were starting to crack. I seem to hear this happening a lot with the early 997s.

 

I hope mine's ok. CEL on, so it's in service now awaiting an inspection.

I just had all six of mine replaced on my 34k 2006 C2S Cab. Actually only one was bad but the dealer went ahead and replaced all six.

 

Is a visual check the only test or can you check with Durametrics?

 

you feel the problem as engine dont work properly ,
then you read a message about "visit service "
i check it with durametric and fault was "misfires in cylinders .."

 

once one goes bad you have to change them all or the will drop one by one like flies... why??? not sure but I know I had one fail and we changed them all.

 

I should have said; Is there anyway to diagnose a coil and determine it is going bad before it fails?

 

i think durametric will give you the fault early.
