X51 headers- install question
Just picked up X51 headers from Brumos Porsche. Unfortunatley they are covered in stickers from the factory. Do these need to be removed before I install them? Don't want to start a fire.

if car is old - pre-soak bolts very well and be careful applying brutal force when removing them.
it s also reccommended to replace header bolts once they were unscrewed, but, i am not so sure if it is very important unless you had to struggle a lot.
honestly if car is not brand new and old headers are toasted to the block i would drive car to mechanic to get this done - job by itself is very easy and if you will have no issues unscrewing those bolts you wil be done in 3-4 hours top BUT it you will break off bolt`s head and leave body in the engine block - it is a very very major PITA.
difference between you an mechanic is that mechanic knows by heart how much force he can apply there before bolt`s steel will break.
in my case - when i was replacing my cats i broke off 4 bolts out of 6. they simply did not go at all even after 3 days o pre-soaking and applying a bit more force made them simply snap in half. but it was cats and i do not care - if you leave bolt`s body in the block you will have to drill into engine block, long story short you do not want that.
i think last person who did this upgrade on an '06 car was cattman ad his header bolts did go very easily. if i`m not mistaken tightening force on headers is 17lb.ft, so if you dial in 25 or so lb/ft on torque wrench and it is not enough to undo those bolts - that would mean you go to be careful.
Nuts on cats bolts - connection between cats and headers - are also 17lb/ft as it seems. be careful there too if you do not have spare cats. as i spoke before i broke off mine - nuts were toasted to bolts permanetly.

As Utkinpol says..soak the bolts down with liquid wrench over night. Even then it may still be a struggle. My car was only 6 mos. old when I did it so I had none of these issues. I removed the OEM exhaust, reinstalled the new exhaust (headers, cats and Borlas) all in 3.5 hrs. with the car on phone books to lift it up a tad so I could get under there. I lent out my ramps to a buddy who was installing a set of long tube headers on his 08 Shelby GT500 and didn't want to wait.
