machined aluminum door handles

Well my interior door handle has a few chips here and there from fingernails my watch hitting it etc. I called up a friend of mine to see if he would be interested in making some door handles out of aluminum for me. Anyone else have any interest? Not sure what they will cost but if their is enough people interested i might be able to get a good bulk price.

Thanks,
Carter

IIRC the original design from Porsche was to have Aluminum handles, but during some testing they found that the weight of the handles was opening the doors on the car.

I read this on rennlist or 6speed some where before..

The plan would be to make these as light as possible. That must have been one really serious door handle to have enough weight to open the door at impact. Of course these would be sold with no warrantees and disclaimers.

I wonder if this maybe just triggers the auto open window. They only require a very slight about of movement.

That would make little bit more sense. A machined aluminum console cover would look pretty sweet. Possibly have the carrera S or the porsche shield machined into it.. hmmm watch out the wheels are turning!

I was sort of joking. It is the part that runs down the center of the car interior in between the seats. It would be an expensive piece to machine.

How about machining in some holes to lighten the weight? They would look "racey" to boot! Plus, how about offering some anodizing options?

I would have imagined that Porsche would have looked at all possible ways to solve this problem. I am sure they even looked at Neoprene

Mine is scratched as well - I just noticed this the other day when cleaning. Almost certainly from my wedding ring. Not so durable with only 6K miles on the car, I can imagine the thing being a mess in a few years.

I'd be interested in a more durable solution. If you put it together, PM me and I'm in if cost is reasonable.

This is a very cool idea but will take a TON of machine time to make!
Time= money......I am guessing these won't sell for less than $250-300/pr...maybe more.
If the handles were breaking than I say this is a solution BUT....
if your rings are scratching the handle now there will be a good chance that you are going to scratch the aluminum ones because aluminum will need some sort of finish on it(anodized, painted or clear coated) or you will be left with a black residue on your hands every time you open it...and being that all of the finishes above are soft.....you still need to be as careful pulling the handles as the ones you have now.
Just my $.02....

The Acura NSX handle was one that would break over time, here is a pic of that handle and it sells for $345.00

Then best solution is to probably get an OEM spare set - swap between those and a repainted set as needed. I wonder what the originals cost?
