Stock - is it just me?..

Stock - is it just me?..
Here's one for ya ...
After perusing this forum for going on two months, I'm frequently enamored reading about all the mods many of you lads are doing to your P-cars.
Yet, I find myself pleasingly satisfied with my car as it was/is the day it came off the truck. It handles better than anything I've ever owned, it's fast enough to get me into serious trouble, I don't intend to track-day it, it's comfortable, it's solid, and it makes all the noise I need a sports car to make.
So.. am I a candidate for the loony bin by not wanting to mod the car? So far I haven't found any aftermarket parts that I simply gotta have.

I think its more of a hobby than anything. Especially if you do it yourself, it feels good to know you have contributed a small portion to the mechanical aspect of your car. I started with side marker lights and air filter, then worked up to exhaust; next I'm planning on changing the headers and cats, mostly b/c I think its fun. But, I agree that even stock, its a thing of beaty and pretty darn near perfect.

Like all other cars, Porsche builds for the masses. On the most part they extremely capable in there stock form, however different owners may choose to improve them for their needs or wants. Some people want the look at me mods, where as others improve things to get more performance out of there cars. As to mods being a waste of money, that is up to the person that owns the car to decide, I have some mods that I doubt are worth anything, but you win some, you lose some.

To each his/her own. It is about what makes you happy. There is nothing wrong with enjoying your car the way it came from the factory. It is YOUR car. As others have said, some enjoy modding because they can do it themselves and it gives them a sense of satisfaction, others to gain more performance and still others for the "look at me factor".
Bottom line is, anyone that has a P-car did so for their own personal satisfaction. I doubt there are many that bought a 911 because it would be good for hauling sheet rock or transporting the Little League team. Buying and enjoying a P-car is a matter of choice. How you choose to do so is your choice alone and no one can tell you otherwise.

I actually laughed out loud at that! So true is the modding bug a little insidious creature. And, when it bites...look out.
I enjoy my car as it is. Stock. It's been wonderful and having modified my previous Audi (because I felt it needed it), I know that right now I don't need to do a thing to personalize or bring out performance anymore than my stock C2 offers. I do know that I want to move up in the 911 range but I'll do that as time goes on. In the meantime, I love my Carrera.
Although, if I'm being truthful I have changed out the clear side markers and added tint. HOWEVER, that's where I'm stopping. No matter what. Absolutely. No doubt about it. Except for exhaust. THEN, nothing else. Ever again.

Well, since I have owned my p-car I have only done one mod (other than my driving)...Clear side lights. Does that count as a mod? That does not mean I won't in the future as I am watching Stacy's thread carefully with his turbo kit.

I'm awfully happy with my stock C2S. Heck of a car on the street and on the track.
I break the law in second gear and have no trouble with a Lotus or a Vette.
I've been changing out the brake pads for the track and am considering GT3 control arms to improve turn in and tire wear. Other than that I think I'm pretty content.

I evaluate each car differently . There are some Porsches which i would leave stock , others would get minor upgrades, and then there are others which the stock car is only it's infancy stage.
The 997S is one of the cars which I feel gets minor upgrades . The gains are minor yet they are significant enough to be very noticeable . It's a way of customizing the car and making it a bit unique.
An example of a Porsche which i would leave stock woild be either an older collector's car or a car like a Gt3RS where it's a limited production Porsche.
Examples of Porsches which are in need of major upgrades are the 996 Turbo and 997 Turbo . Stock the car is extremely boring in contrast to what can be done to tweak peformance. Oddly enough the 997.2tt is suffient right out of the box but can not compete with the modded Turbos before it. The tuners are working on that though .
In fact the tuners have had so many years to work on the 996tt that it took quite awhile for the 997.1tt to play catch up and to this day there are quite a few 996tt's which are class record holders .

I know that feeling. The feeling that the car is awesome . . . awesomely engineered and amazing to drive -- no reason to mod it. I went through that with my S2000. Well, that S2000 wound up being supercharged and a far, far cry from the civilized machine that came off the lot.
I had that familiar feeling with my C2S. Although I was interested in an exhaust . . . and after just a couple months of owning the car, I bought the Tubi exhaust. I'm sure there are more mods coming, but for right now I love the car. One mistake I made with my previous car is that I changed it so significantly that the car was not fun to drive as a daily driver. It was loud (not obnoxious) and the suspension was so tight it was uncomfortable around the city streets that I frequently drive. I won't make those mistakes again.
BTW, what a great forum with so many owners contributing their experience to so many different mods!
Anyway, I don't think anyone that loves the characteristics of their stock car is "looney." It is precisely as those above have said . . . . everyone has their own individual taste!
One thing I know about the P-car . . . . it is "A Legend in Top Form!" ;-)
