Green and yellow DE running groups and r-comps

hi,

is it a general rule for any PCA clubs not to allow usage of any r-comp tires for any drivers in green and yellow run groups at DE events?
Or does it only usualy apply to slicks like hoosiers/bfg?

I have never heard of limitations on equipment for any run groups, except for safety equipment. There are always different rules for different regions. What would someone with a stock GT3 have to do, switch tires away from the RComps that they come with? Makes no sense to me.

I have seen the use of slicks expressly prohibited in beginner run groups. However I don't recall if it was PCA or other driving organizations and schools.

me neither until i had to sign in with NCR to run at NHMS.

in 'tires' section.

and here

under 'safety devices'.

i am pretty frustrated over this to say the least as i pre-paid first and now just printed out tech form to find out this crap. NER does not have this rule.

I used to drive with them years ago and remember them as very nice folks. There are three separate exceptions listed:
- if they were stock (addresses comment above)
- if the car is also driven in an advanced group (my first thought)
- if Chief Instructor signs off

I think it's not a bad rule of thumb, and can come in handy, when enforced properly with the flexibility above.

so instead of my kumho v700 i need now go get old bold all-season tires for $100 at nearest dump that do still have 3/32th of thread left on em and come on them to a track?

i am not going to buy 3rd set of rims with street tires for NCR alone which i do not need. i can attend 1 event with NCR on my winter PA2 tires of course, not a big deal, but that will be pretty much the end of relationship with them - not sure how handy will it be but do not really care.
i sent email with request to allow me to run on my regular tires, will see what a response it will be.

It sounds to me like they are flexible. How many events have you run with the Kumhos? That's probably a good metric, and all you'd need to get the thumbs up. I used to know the Chief Instructor, but that was years ago. PM me if you need some help.
In my experience, rules like this are in place bc some yahoo screwed up in the past. Once they understand that you're not a crazy newbie / safety hazard, you'll be all set.

i just burned down set of hoosiers to cord at auto-x and replaced them with those kumhos. well, like i said, i sent an email to mark watson (ncr de chair) so will see what the outcome will be. those kumhos i used on 3 last auto-x events at devens.

Well at least they covered the OEM issue I mentioned.

I guess they want people to be comfortable with their cars before allowing them to move to a more advance set up. The advantage of a street tire is they will communicate with the driver more before letting go, where as a R Comp will have less communication, more grip.
