I feel the same way. Plus we have to have a front plate here too (not that all of us put it on). Florida rules.

We have a lot of "California residents" living here in Nevada.

I almost got into a fight with one of my "California" neighbors when I pointed out that all he was doing with his CA plate was advertising that he was a thief.
What does this even mean? Many people fail to change plates when they move...it's not just a California thing. Is it really worth getting into a fight with your neighbor over?

Also, I'd gladly pay $2000+ to register my car if I didn't have to pay state income tax.

The vehicle license fee (VLF) portion is based on the original sales price and depreciates by 10% each year until you get down to a min of about $100. I just paid $893 to register my 997 and yes it sucked!

Just another way for our government to collect more "taxes" that they spend in other ways.

In NY our roads and bridges are in deplorable shape, yet a majority of the road taxes go to mass transit.

Registration is supposed to pay for the roadways/services that are used while driving. We all drive...we all pay. My question is, first, why do I have to pay more just because my car is worth more? And second, why do I have to pay for each car I have when I can only drive one at a time? With 4 cars, It's not like I'm using 4X the road...

Here in Georgia, we call it the 'birthday tax' because the vehicle registration fees always renew on your birthday. I just paid about $700 to renew registration for my '05 C2S. Happy Birthday to me!!

We just pucker up and dig deep in our wallets. Thank God I don't register in NV- is it that bad for reg renewals in NV, too? Up in Oregon, it's $50 for two years vehicle registration. THAT's what it should be here.

A friend of mine in NC who used to live here calls it the "we don't want you here tax"- (CA reg fees.) Of course, we have taxes up the wazoo. If it moves- tax it. If it is wanted, tax it. If it's needed, tax it. If it's discarded- tax it. Now they are trying to tax cow farts- I kid you not. Next will be pay-per bowel movements, complete with inspection for content. I love this state geographically, but I loathe the State Govt system. Just asinine, corrupt and inept. These guys couldn't run a simple lemonade stand and turn a profit. And Gov Schwarzenegger is no better than the last one that we recalled and ran out, IMHO...

CA used to be the leader and example of so many good things 30-40 years ago (Education System, Roads, etc). Not anymore. Go to Tenn, and drive on their roads. Fantastic. WHY? Because they privatized that sector. Don't ask me where all our FastTrak Toll Fee revenue $$$ is going, because it sure isn't in our roads.

What's Orange and sleeps 4 comfortably? A Cal-Trans truck. (soapbox now stowed)

I should also point out that the total registration amount, based on the original MSRP of the vehicle ($120K), will only decrease 5% next year, and 10% a year after that.

For the next registration year (2011), I'll have to pay $1,795. The year after that (2012), it will be $1, 615, etc.

However, except for the actual registration fee ($33), all of the money paid is a government services tax, and is therefore a Federal income tax deduction.

That takes some of the "sting" out of it

That is amazingly wicked-steep. A perpetual, yearly, "govt svc tax"- not just a new-tax. That's a hideous revelation. I'm incorporating in NV, but I'm not so sure I'll register my vehicles there... In all this: they- (the State), will get it ($$) from you one way or another. It's just a matter of how they get it out of you.

They'll tax anything in the Democratic People's Republic of Kalifornia, or DPRK for short.
