997S Finally broken in!
I finally hit 2000 miles on my 997S, and have really gotten into motor for the first time. All I can say is wow. The car screams after 5000 rpm. Throttle response in sport mode is lightening quick. This car pulls hard in every gear. You can feel the variocam kick in at about 3500 rpm. This car is much faster than my 04 C2. I never want to get out of the car. I can't wait to get on the track.

On another note, Did you go strictly by the break in instructions in the manual. No over 4200 rpms and no full throttle?

The 3.9, 0 to 60 time is in the Road and track comparision. After the car was broken ii to 5000 miles or so. It would be a great test. Excellence mag should do it.

I followed the manua to the letter. Once or twice I hit 5000 rpm, basically forgetting to pay attention. I guess I was watching the road rather than the tach.

Did an oil and filter change at 2000 miles, and now I am hitting redline every chance I get, keeping it on cam as much as possible. Haven't seen the redline of anything higher than 3rd yet, but that would be well into the triple digits. Save it for the track.

I love my 996 and can't wait until I hit the 2000K mile mark and can get on it more, but the 997s by the books is going to be hard to beat. Read that road and track comp. It is really good

We're all on the same team
It's all a matter of progress. The 997S might be close to the 996 turbo in performance. And it should be. It is the next step in a forward moving pocess. The 997 Turbo will widen the gap again, like the gap between the 996 and 996 Turbo before.

Porsche has closed lots of the acceleration gap by changing the gearing in the 997S.
The Turbo has the following overall gear ratios in 1st, 2nd and 3rd...13.14/7.05/4.85. The 997S overall ratios are...13.45/7.98/5.54. The higher the overall ratio, the greater the turning power that is provided to the rear wheels. Yes, the gears are shorter in the 997S, but with a higher redline it doesn't impact driveability.
So if Porsche did the same gearing change with the 996 Turbo, and increased the redline by 400-600 rpm (for driveabliliy), it would again have a very large acceleration advantage over the 997S.

Thats a mighty fine stable you have there.
When you say it does not compare by any means? I gather you are speaking just of shear grunt?
According to all the Hype, the 997s should mop the floor with it in the handling department? So is this just more hype?
What I really want is a 997 TT, but I don't know if I can wait that long, so I was considering the 997S. The HYPE is pretty persuasive.

The X73 Turbo is, in my opinion, a much better handling car than the 997S.
