Gas filler problem...
#16
I have the same issue on my 997.2. Interestingly, I do find that it is gas station nozzle specificed. I have learned that at my local gas station, certain nozzles wouldn't fill my tank all the way, while certain nozzles would. Now I just make sure to go to the nozzles that I know it would work with my 997.2.
On a side note, my Mercedes has no problem with any of the nozzles, so I guess the gas filling sensor might be a little more sensative on the 997.2.
Regards,

viper guys have this issue as well i believe.
just see how much gas your car can hold, then look at how much you drove and how you drove (grandma To vin deisel) and calculate accordingly.
My 300ZX 19 gallon tank and the sensor registers E when i hit 14 lol. so it's gonna take a lil guess work just be careful is all.

[quote=997sRider;2932840]I had the same problem. Just insert the nozzle upside down and fill up.
Yes, turning upside down will usually get me about 2 to 3 gallons more. But not every time. It is very odd, but a friend with a porsche told me about it.

Im in SoCal and have the same issues. I always had a feeling it had something to do with emissions control. It is a PITA and I never know when my car is full..until it starts leaking out....again, PITA!
I dont have this issue with my other German vehicle. A VW SUV. Only the Porsche.
I will try rotating the nozzle 90* and see what that does.

I set the autofill lever and get in the car to wait for the nozzle to shut itself. Then I check the gas gauge. If there's not enough gas, I would get out of the car and set autofill lever again. Then I get back in the car and wait for the nozzle to shut off to check the gas gauge. This process sometimes get repeated quite a few times until I get a full tank...
This is the result of some boneheaded design of new filling station nozzles, particularly those that seal against the car and capture the fumes around the metal nozzle coming back out of the tank.
My local Shell stations replaced their pumps and now thats happening. Its not just with my 997, also my 02 New Beetle. Seems someone made a really stupid design and either didn't consult with European manufacturers, or the things are not set up properly.
There is some process of inserting the nozzle upside down (the trigger up), that prevents that, but I just told the attendant that till they get that fixed, I'm gassing up elsewhere, Life is to short to do a stupid nozzle dance because the government and filling stations cannot get their head out of their *****.
