I agree with you regarding smoking - I don't smoke and detest someone else's smoke around me for sure.

Oh no. Maybe on German roads, but the roads here in the Pacific Northwest (the exposed aggregate concrete type especially) are so rough that you would get a symphony of rattling from the coins in there.
I store an emergency $5, a lense cloth and other soft small items there (and the screw back for the flashlight that lives in the cig lighter outlet, though I'm still trying to get that not to rattle)
Maybe an ejector button would be good, or the shutoff switch for radar/laser gear or some such thing.
