I could not agree more.

I dont care how much better this car will be than my 997, if I cringe every time I see it thats no good.

It sounds like an unbelievable machine and a true technological advancement. I worry that the increase in size (length), the addition of all of the electronic aids, the larger back seat will all make it seem softer. Like an edgier Merc SL. Not the kind of car that appeals to me.
I am sure it will be a huge advancement, and will have great performance, and will be beautiful in a more modern way, but I prefer an edgy, racy, louder car that doesn't cater to big-buck buyers who want more comfort. OTOH, the center of the standard deviation caters to these types making me the odd man out.
I have made enough mods in my 997.1 that I doubt I would ever trade 'up', but if I do, it is looking more and more like I'll search for something else.
But these guys are geniuses and when the TT comes around, I may just get sucked in

When I posted this I knew so many different opinions would arise, but we need to look at this realistically. Clearly this is a rendering, whether true or not, it is a rendering. Looks wise, do you really think Porsche would jeopardize the 911 icon by ruining it. Anyway. IMO there are some positives. Overall idea and shape are retained. Renderings always have a tendency to smooth over so many edges that all cars look much sleeker/rounded then they are. The interior will manage to pull some aspects from the Panamera and Cayenne which if you have seen these interiors and lived with them for a few days you will love! I understand the concern about the 911 going soft, but read that they will be utilizing materials to lower weight in the car!!! That is so great. Should improve performance and feel. If they can manage to add a few gizmos but lower weight (cayenne shed 400lbs!!!!). Then it should be phenomenal. Also, Porsches aim in adding these things is to increase the driving experience...not take away from it. PTV...awesome. Then there will still be choices to not add options or purchase Gt3's or more hardcore 911's. As Porsche always does...they will create a great car. The good thing is...anyone who doesnt like it...dont buy one. Save money and keep the previous generation that you have now.

All I know is so many were concerned about "DFI" and "PDK" and the 997.2 in general. I have seen those same people on this forum and in my life change to a 997.2 and PDK. Just sayin.

Your concerns are warranted. Audi's B8 A4 grew in almost all dimensions and the interior also changed. Some liked it and owners of previous generations thought it went in a direction that was less than wonderful. Interesting that the auto rags seem to love it, no doubt due to the 6 cyl supercharged engine. Time will tell if this will be a truly great machine.

A 7-speed manual with a dog leg (I'm assuming) first gear makes no sense at all. The only thing that will do is push more folks over to PDK (then again maybe that's the idea? ) If this is the case then the current 997 should be able to best the 991 from 0-60 just based on the added time it will take to get it into 2nd.

Amazing Replies

I assume pretty much everyone here is a fan of Porsche and here is the car company (that builds better and improved version of the 911 since 40 years) announcing that they will come out with a lighter, more powerful and more fuel efficient car that will undoubtely handle better, drive faster and will be very similar in look and style since every predecessor launched in the last 35 years - yet almost every comment is negative!?!?!

I don't get this

I must admit that I am looking forward to the car, the400hp S sounds like a brilliant machine and an improvement to the interior looks to the Panamera style sounds like a great idea (I just drove the Panamera S for a week through Germany - what a fabulous car, especially when you are going over 150mph and it feels like 35mph through the city here ...

sounds to me like metal roof solution a la BMW 3 Series or Mercedes SL but with a canvas wrap to retain the classic convertible look - kind of best of both worlds if the weight can be controlled

Not that I ever use cc.

The cruise control has a radar system build in that will slow you down automatically if you are closing in on the guy in front of you - perfect for Stop and go in traffic jam as well as you never have to accelerate or break, the system does that for you.

YellowCalliper is infamous around these parts
Technology improvements sound great. However, if this rendering is correct, it detracts too much from the classic 911 shape, which IMHO is not good.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a lot of 918 influence, especially in the front end.
