You will get all kinds of opinions , but in the end, you're going to be the guy paying the bill and living with the car. If the dealer can fix it to your satisfaction, then go ahead. If not, back out of this one and take your business elsewhere. Nothing spoils the fun of a new car then to have some form of damage even before you take delivery of it.

The rest of the car is fine. I think this happened this week while prepping the car. I didn't notice it before.
Eric, you mentioned that the dealer owes me a new similar car. Granted, I would not mind that at all, but I think that is unrealistic. He can sell the car for more money in about 1-2 months when the weather gets better. Someone else might not even notice the scratch. I have called more than ten dealers this winter workling on deals and no one would touch this kind of discount.

How big is the scratch? I wouldn't be surprised if it could be touched up to your satisfaction. 9% is a better deal than 90%+ of those around here will get off their 997Ss. Personally, I'd see what they can do with the scratch and if it's a decent job, what the heck. But, there's no reason to be a hard **** to a dealer who has given you a better deal than 90%+ of the rest of them if the scratch is not major and can be fixed pretty well IMO. Doing so is not how you will build a relationship with one of the few dealers around to give out deals like that. On top of that, I can tell you right now a black, Atlas Grey, etc car will never remain unscratched for long - unless it remains in the garage under cover it's whole life. Actually no car will, but you will just see it better on these darker colors.

That said, Eric has a point about potential monkey biz with that story. You might want to make sure it hasn't been resprayed anywhere.
Gotta Love Ben I would take the same approach. As well our everyday cars are always going to have things happen to them and it would be tragic to pass this deal up. My 996 had the headlights stolen 2x and was keyed and I reapired it and drove it. However just make sure there are no other issues with the car. I have a few friends in Service and Sales and you would be suprised what gets repaired stateside at the port and no one knows the better. I would have the dent removed and have them paint the fender. 9% off is a great deal I am trying for 3% on my new 997 that is on order... Good Luck I am between Atlas Grey and Arctic Silver I have to decide by weeks end so I can finalize the order.

i don't think 9% is a common discount; its extraordinary. the dealer didn't hide the dent or scratch why would they hide anything else especially at that price.
i think you'll be happy, besides you got the car now!

A 9% discount is unheard of. I have been looking for a dealer to "work with me" on the price of a new S and I can't find anyone in the western US willing to "deal." That said, this price seems a bit odd and I would be a bit uncomfortable if I were in your shoes.

Good luck

I bought the car and there is nothing wrong with it. I could of got this discount on any of the cars in stock. They had a black, black , and basalt black black. I wanted a lighter color. Preferably I would of chose seal grey. But beggers can't be chosers, as they say. I couldn't spring for any more money. I take an S and settle on color at this price rather than get a base carrera with the color I want. I did not want to wait until next winter to see if they order a seal grey.
