Help! I need everyone's opnion
Hi Everybody,
I am picking up my car tomorrow and I found a small ding about the size of a pea on my left fender. Also, there is a deep scratch right below the ding. the problem with the scratch is that it is deep. It seems that the dealer didn't know about it and are saying it already came buffed, probably from port or factory. Now here's the dilemna, I got an unbelievable deal on the car and they don't have any other 997S' If I was to pass on the car, not only would I not get a car for another 3 months, but I would not get the same deal since it's winter. What do I do? The dealer has dent wizard coming tomorrow to address the dent. However, the scratch will permanently remain. Is this a deal breaker? He is willing to take off some small change to soften the blow. All I can say is the dealer is treating me fair but ultimately it's my decision. What do you guys think about swapping fenders with another car on the lot? Thanks in advance!
Regards,
Anthony

I'm afraid I don't agree with your premise that the dealer is treating you fairly. Doesn't matter how good the price was, you entered into a contract for a new, undamaged car, and that is what the dealer is obligated to deliver. He should make that car right, to your satisfaction, or deliver an undamaged car at the same price.

I agree with the previous post. I personally would not take the car. Are they willing to take another fender from another car? You don't say what color it is, and I would be concerned about the color match. But ultimately it's your decision. Is this something you can live with? How much more are they willing to take off? Just how good is your deal?

Anthony,
I would NOT take a scratched car.
If a fender matched from another car and they were willing, I'd do the swap.
But, I'd have to watch them do it cause odds are they would f*ck up something else during that process.
Good Luck, you need it.

is there a paint shop in the US that sprays water based paint? Ask the dealer to send the fender out, otherwise i agree with above responses, you have a contract for 9% discount they must honor it unless there are other conditions you have not disclosed.
Atlas grey is the color this year, a local dealer has ordered launch cars in that color, i bought one too.

Things like this happen.. they are often repaired before the new owner takes the car and he is never the wiser, it is the responsibilty of the dealer to repair and repaint the fender, unless you made a different deal, make the dealer fix it, I'am sure there is a paint shop they use that could make it look unoticeable.
9% is a good deal, but don't take the car if it's not right, you'll never stop thinking about the scratch....
PS the dealer will never switch fenders with another car. IMO
Good luck

Walk.
Do NOT take the car.
1) They do NOT buff the cars at port. They should arrive at your dealership wrapped in plastic/foam and not cleaned. If it came in buffed, it was damaged at port and was repaired, and the dealer should have a note about it.
2) The car will always be a damaged car, no matter what. Not the end of the world, but you are paying for a new, undamaged car, not painted after it left the factory.
3) Forget swapping fenders. It doesn't work that way. Even bumper covers won't work that way.
4) 9% off. Big deal. Nice deal, actually, but they can order another one, and get a jump on it if they have a good relationship with their rep from PCNA.
We paint Atlas, and have matched it perfectly without even having the car present. So it can be fixed.
But if I were in your shoes, I'd walk on this one. The dealer is hiding something, and I would not believe the 'story' for a minute.
If you are comfortable with the dealer, get the car ordered again, and tell them to search the dealer system for a match. Could be another one in production right now.

That said, Eric has a point about potential monkey biz with that story. You might want to make sure it hasn't been resprayed anywhere.

Hi Guys,
I appreciate everyone's opinion. I think if they get the ding out today and maybe a small discount on top of what they already have given me then it's a deal. You have to understand one thing this car is a stretch as it is and paying more money somewhere else is not feasible. Obviously if money wasn't an issue then I would definitely pass on the deal. I brought down a friend who is as **** as me and he didn't see it until I pointed it out. I tried taking a picture but it's impossible to see anything in the photo. My friend agrees that the ding need to address but the scratch is barely noticable.
