997 Oil temp questions
Hi guys, it's been really hot in So Cal lately. My oil temp is near the 250 mark, and this is driving at highway speeds w/ AC on. The coolant temp is normal. Just wondering if I should be concerned about the oil temp at all. I'm also curious about owners from, say, Phoenix, what is your normal oil temp during the hot months? Thanks!

He is German, so he must be right

Do you have a center radiator? If not than maybe think of adding one.
Part of the reason is the AC is on and causing the engine to work harder and zapping power.
I have a 3rd/center radiator installed and my temps average 250 when im on the track.
FYI, the car will tell you if it gets too hot and that is usually because of a coolant failure.

No, I don't have a center radiator. Not sure I need one since it seems that it's normal to be near 250 during hot weather. The temp will eventually go down - I guess either because of the fans or air from driving, or both. So, I guess the question is....how harmful is it for your engine to run that hot for a period of time and when do I really need to worry about oil temp?? There's nothing in the manual that provides info on this.

I have a 997.1 with an added center radiator. The indicated oil or coolant temperatures did not decrease after it was installed, staying at 225-250 and 175 degrees, respectively.
I recently had the LN Engineering 160 degree low temperature thermostat kit put in. The indicated coolant temperature did not change from the normal 175 degrees, but the operating oil temperature decreased by about 20 degrees under similar conditions.

I normally show Coolant temp of 175 and oil temp of about 200 just crusing down the freeway. Add some spirited driving and it becomes 225 quick. Add some real spirited driving and some hills and it's 250. At that point I usually pop the spoiler and it'll pull it down some.

Oil temp of 250 is fine and totally normal. You want to keep the oil temp up above at least 220 to burn off any condinsation anyway. Engines in the last decade are built to run hotter oil temps than older engines. You also have synthetic oil and 250 is nothing for it.

I've had mine creep up over 240ish on hot days + spirited hill climbs..but I've never reached 250. When it gets hot, I get paranoid and will pop the spoiler and turned on the fans on high sans AC. I'm not sure if this really helps or not. (Coolant temp never seems to move more than 5 from the middle).
I did however, notice that my pressure seems to drop a little on warmer days when idling. Normally, its between 3.5 - 5...but on super hot days+spirited driving...I've seen it drop to 2.0 during idle. This is post-service. (I didn't overfill the oil).
