Possible trade (C2S pdk vs 997.1 GT3)
Hello everyone ,
Recently ive been bouncing around the idea of trading in my 2009 C2S pdk for a 2008 GT3. Reason being is that Ive developed an appetite for track days. Other reasons that i thought of were the resale values, the gt3 will probably hold its value more.
The C2S was optioned exactly the way i wanted and i love it to death.
The GT3 is fully optioned, low milage, and in near new condition.
I would apreciate any inputs into this matter since i cant seem to decide.

get the GT3 and enjoy it on the road and the track.
there will be lots of new or old pdk C2S on the market anytime you feel like getting one again, and the next gen will be better.
can't say the same on the next gen GT3 yet as we don't know what engine it will get.

my advice woulde be to keep 997.2 pdk and buy additional older 996 gt3 and make it 'track only' car, if you can afford that. or build/buy a spec boxster - you can do it for $20k or so. nice new street car on a track is not really a good solution if you feel you get addicted to all that. spec boxster is actually a great compromise.

if you are already signed off from green-yellow groups then get a gt3. if you are not there yet - gt3 will make your learning more difficult but much more fun. so decide for yourself.

Coming from driving a PDK C2S in yellow...to soloing in white in a 6 speed GT3 is a giant learning curve step to overcome.
Lift with the GT3 at the wrong time and bad stuff will happen.
I suggest spending some time in green and yellow with the GT3 if you make the move.
Cant beat the GT3 on the track but i'm not sure its the best learning tool for the first year or so.
Good luck

Well im not a beginner ( not a pro either)
But when i look down the road, at some point..im gonna have to get a gt3. This opportunity might not be available later on( direct trade no cash involved)
If i do get the GT3, im going to start slow and build up from there to learn how it behaves.

To the OP: If you were considering a 997.2GT3, yes, it would have a performance advantage, but a 997.1GT3 not so much. To confirm this just ask forum member mdrums.

If you have solid seat time and the chance is here now then certainly do it.
The C2S is a good car on the track with solid perfomance numbers...but the gt3 is a monster.
Go for it and don't look back.
All the best

I really wish I could get a GT3...but....I can;t so I really enjoy my 09 C2S PDK. So obviously I have never driven a GT3 but I've rode in plenty of them and instructed students in them at the track.
With PDK and a install of of GT3 lower control arms, R-Comp tires and a good set of pads if you can really drive you will be able to stay with or sometimes pass a GT3. If you are just starting out with DE's a GT3 will not make a difference until you get some seat time in any car. PDK will actually help you at the track over a 6 speed manual. Are you really good a heel and toe? You will need to be a master at heel and toe in order to really drive a GT3 at the current speed you drive your PDK in.
But for a track rat like me I'd love to have a GT3.

Without a doubt, buy the GT3! Not for depreciation, but rather it is a totally different car. I have had a friends track prepped and gutted GT3 for a few weeks, and it is so much fun to drive!

I don't know that I can lap faster with the 997.1 GT3 over a 997.2S w/PDK, but it is fun-as-hell to drive- just an angry, tactile, visceral experience. Now getting behind the wheel of a E92 M3, Corvette, IS-F, etc- all great cars in their own right - but in direct comparison they all feel a bit numb... sterile perhaps. Even the 997.1S with mods felt a little more "mature"- which is needed as a DD- but if you are using it as a weekend toy/track car - go with the GT3!
