Werks 1 intake on 997.2

I installed the Werks one intake on my 997.2 non-s last night. I did it primarily for the looks and maybe the sound. I did notince some residual carbon fiber chalking in and around the box intakes so I cleaned that up a bit before install. Most of it was in the intake vents before the filter so worst case the filter would catch it. There was some small flaking inside the outlet of the box however and a short wipe down took care of that.

In all the install was pretty easy once you got the old box out and the air sensor out. The only issue for me was the tubing connection between the engine and the new box. It was pretty tight and the tube supplied by Werks is very stiff. Not much room to manuever and once the clamps were on no real confirmation that they were holding it all in the right place (I could not wee the underside of the tube to make sure the clamp was around the tube well enough). I had to use my fingertips to feel around to make sure it was locked in. I was hesitant to tighten the clamp closest to the box for fear of breaking the carbon fiber. The one around the engine intake is plenty tight.

I figured if I didn't throw a code then I must not have a leak and all is well. Everything went to gether well and the car didn't throw the code. Sound seems more of a growl than a brrr. My buddy who had no idea the intake was on even mentioned that it sounded mean when i pulled into his driveway. The intake looks fantastic in the engine bay as well and really sets it off.

If I were to suggest any imporvement it would be to use a metal outlet tube so you can crank on the hose clamp without fear. Also some pictorial directions would be nice for the non mechanical crowd. The install was easy but a S has some addtional steps I think and pics always help you feel more confident. Also I would use an accordian type hose instead of the stiff one provided as it would make that part of the install easier. Lastly I would use a guide tab like on the OEM box so it is easier to position the box on the mounting holes and the connection would be more solid.

Just got a call from Champion re: my intake. They read my post above and called me right away to make sure I was happy and that everything on the box was good to go. Great customer service and I will use them again for sure. I should also mention that Champion was also very helpful during the install offering to walk me thru it over the phone.

Thanks guys that is really attentive service and I am happy to see you guys keep up with these forums. I only wish some dealers would do the same.

When i get home I will take some pics of the install. It looks really good on a new black car.

Looks great! I've been kicking around a different intake for my 997.2. What, if any, performance improvements are gained? Also, what is the trick on getting the air sensor out? I was playing with it the other day and it wasn't obvious to me how to get the darn thing off...

There are two screw holding in the MAF. You need to remove the cover of the factory airbox and it will expose the second screw

I had to remove the screws first from the MAF then once it was out I could find and manipulate the clip to unplug it from the cable. On my 997.2 there was a small lever tab on the underside of the MAF plug that you had to push hard before it would unlock and pull out. Easy to do with the MAF out but not easy to see with it on.

If someone has trouble all they have to do is what I did and remove the cover for the factory airbox then unscrew the MAF from the housing. Pull it out in one whole piece then reinstall into the Werks unit. That should save you the step of unplugging. If you need to wiggle the OEM box out then having the MAF removed from the housing makes the plug/clip removal much much easier.

Thanks much for the advise on the MAF. Also, I assume that the power graph above is for a non-S 997.2? Do you have the data for the S and is this data from modifing the airbox alone or are there any other mods required such as changing the program, etc? Thanks.

M.

Thanks. I tried to find the lever but as you said you can't see anything. I like the idea of taking the whole thing out and not mess with the plug.

That looks like the data to an S to me...remember the graph is showing RWHP not FWHP.
