GTS details

The new 911 Carrera GTS models are the latest sporty incarnation of the 911 Carrera model line. They are based on the 911 Carrera S models and fill a niche within the 911 Carrera product range for those customers who demand a sportier drive without the compromise of daily usability that some find with the GT3 – and as a Cabriolet offers the special experience of driving with the top down.

A rear wheel drive concept with the wide body of the Carrera 4S Coupe and Cabriolet, the Carrera GTS comes standard with revised engine development, raising power output to 408 hp and lifting the low end torque output by roughly 10 lb.-ft.

Also fitted as standard are the 19-inch RS Spyder center lock wheels painted in black, extensive use of Alcantara in the interior, and the SportDesign steering wheel – with the optional PDK or for the first time available in conjunction with the standard 6-speed manual transmission.

Performance
· Standard 3.8l engine from the Carrera S has been refined with a revised intake system with 6 vacuum-controlled tuning flaps that switch between power and torque optimized settings. In addition, the cylinder heads have been re-engineered, and the engine management modified to take full use of the revised airflow capabilities. This results in a power increase of 23 hp to 408 hp and an increase in low end engine torque between 3,000 and 4,000 rpm. While maximum torque remains at 310 ft.-lb., the increase in lower end torque and availability of maximum torque at 4,200 rpm aids in acceleration, as the higher maximum power output improves top track speed.
· Enhanced acceleration from 0 – 60 mph by 0.1 s for all 911 GTS models and enhanced top track speed of up to 190 mph (with std. manual transmission)
· Despite higher performance fuel economy remains unchanged vs. 911 Carrera S models
· Std. 6-speed manual transmission, 7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) incl. shift paddles opt.
· Further increased agility and driving dynamics due to combination of wider body (with wider rear track and tires) and weight advantage of rear wheel drive
· Sport exhaust system standard, outer section of tailpipes painted in black, inner section polished with nano-coating outside and finished in black inside

Exterior
· Wider rear body (+ 1.79 in. / 44 mm)
· 19-inch RS Spyder wheels with center locks std., painted in black with high-gloss rim flanges, with rear tires 305/30 ZR 19 - available on a Carrera model for the first time (so far only for 911 Turbo models)
· SportDesign front apron with front spoiler edge in black (available in body color as EXC option)
· Wider side skirts in black (available in body color as EXC option)
· lower rear apron and section between tailpipes in black
· Available in the same solid and metallic exterior colors as found in the standard Carrera range. The special color range is limited to GT Silver Metallic and Amethyst Metallic.
· Carrera GTS logotype on rear and doors in Black for light colors and Satin Silver for dark colors

Interior
· Std. sports seats and 3-spoke SportDesign steering wheel (paddle steering wheel design without shift paddles) incl. SPORT, SPORT PLUS and Launch Control display if equipped with Sport Chrono Package and PDK (incl. shift paddles) respectively.
· Stainless steel door entry guards with black Carrera GTS logotype and black instrument dials
· Standard trim in Black Alcantara includes:
- seat center section of std. sports seats
- steering wheel rim, gear shift lever (manual transmission) and parking brake lever
- roof liner (Coupe only)
- door handles, door storage compartment lid and extension

Options for the new 911 Carrera GTS models
· If ordered with Leather interior in Black Alcantara the following elements will also be finished in Alcantara: lid of the center console, lower dashboard section and glove box lid, upper door trim cover
· Leather Interior in Black or Sand Beige, special leather colors or natural leather interiors are available as options. Please note: in combination with these options all Alcantara elements (excl. the roof liner for Coupe) will revert to leather/ leatherette as in std. 911 Carrera S models with the respective option.
· Seat options include standard seats, electrically adjustable seats, adaptive sports seats and sport bucket seats.
· The discounted option packages offered for the 911 Carrera S models are not available for the new 911 Carrera GTS models

U.S. Pricing & Market Launch
The new 911 Carrera GTS models will go on sale in December 2010.
The MSRPs are $103,100 (Coupe) and $112,900 (Cabriolet).

Congrats on your order Doug. I can tell you're really excited as you should be.

It's interesting to me to see though that with all those performance enhancements and 23hp gains it only shaves 0.1s off the 0-60. I know Porsche is conservative in their numbers, but confirms to me that modifying an existing 'S' isn't worth much for the cost.

Thanks, I am indeed very excited to get back in a 911.

As for the performance numbers, if you look at a dyno curve you'll notice that while 23 hp at the peak may seem like a decent increase, the difference decreases as you work back down the RPM range. Not only is the HP increase much smaller down where the car starts during a launch, but that initial grunt of torque is really what makes more of a 0-60 difference IMHO - and there's a very small torque increase on the X51/GTS.

PS - this information comes directly from a PCNA document. I just thought it might be useful since there is still a lot of ambiguity and speculation around the GTS and its details.

Looks like a good idea even though there's a lot of 911 version now...

i already imagine GTS owners claiming they belong to the "GT's club'' while "real" GT's owner refuses to admit "poor man GT3" in their family

I doubt that. It shares neither the engine block nor the suspension bits that make the GT3 what it is. This is clearly a Carrera - it says so all over the body.

Not on the US site. You can configure the car on the UK site, but its fairly pointless as the price is different and the options/standard features are different.
