996 vs 997 buying help please
HI,
so I narowed my options down to 2 Pcars:
2004 (996) black carrera 4S conv with 45000 miles at 45.400$ CPO
2006 (007) white carrera S conv with 21.000 miles at 55.00$ NO cpo
the dealer tries to tell me the 997 is so much better than the 996. yes I have driven both and cant feel too much difference. the 996 is full leather interior with plusher comfort seats, but no navi, the 997 has navi but only half leather and power seats.
different dealers by the way.
thoughts?

Cpo usually goes 2yrs or 100k after the original warranty which means you may be close or have only about a year left of warranty on the 04, and some or none on the 06. See if they'll cpo the 06 and if not with only 21000 miles you may not want that car anyway.

The CPO warranty can be for a whole two years if is he buying form a porsche dealer who recently CPO'ed the car. It will go in effect when the car is sold.

Faced with the same decision of saving a few dollars when I was buying...I ended up with the much superior,IMO(looks of the interior and exterior as well as a few extra ponies)..... I bought the 997 S......and have ZERO regrets!

Seems like you are rushing a bit. I have seen a couple of your threads and you have narrowed down from cayman and CTS to a 911, but the 9964s and 997s cabs are pretty different cars.
So many of these come through LA, I would wait until you see the one you KNOW you want to buy (and can afford). I think you may find patience pays off on this. I know you want it NOW, but getting the one you really want even if it takes a month or more will serve you better for years.

has to do with my credit situation (high income/top credit score BUT first time buyer). I started at a 115k 2010 c2s, had to go down in price to a cayman/ctsv 70k and will not have to settle for a max of 50k$.
so you see that this is me being flexible with my available options. as credit vendors declined me and I had to lower my expectations. No offense, just protecting my porsche desire!
back on topic please

Sucks you have good income and credit score without big purchase history that limits you. Being punished for not having the opportunity to pay your bills seems a bit punitive. Maybe credit union or your bank?
But on topic - the 997s. Both look great. BTW, you seem like you are getting close to 997 cab CPO dollars - Rusnak Westlake has a 997 cab for $59 (not sure if it is an "s" though)
Good luck, and enjoy.

997 has a lot of structual improvement .
the xenon lights were torn off my 996 (in minutes) by theives. The 997 lights are subject to less theft risk.
upgraded PCM .
better quality leather
less rattles .
997 also had less engine problems
I had 2 996 cars (an 00 and ann 02) . I don't miss them at all.
PS --If you really want to save money with an older model the 993 is the car to get .
