Question about TPM Sensor on 997 Carrera S

I have a question for all the Porsche 997 experts:

I have a 997 911 Carrera S. I had switched out the factory wheels and out aftermarket wheels on the car. Before I did, I took out the sensors on the stock to put on the aftermarket.

I'm thinking about switching back to the stock wheels (now without the TPM sensors on the wheels) temporarily.

I'm curious, if I put the stocks back on without the sensors, what is displayed (if anything at all) on the dash? Is there a way to disable to TPM system?

Thanks for feedback.

You can definately drive without TPMS equipment installed but you will get a dash Signal which will Bug you to death. There is currently no "by-pass" so eventually you'll need to re-install the equipment.

If you need to purchase TPMS equipment this is an item we do stock and can ship out quick....

Eli -
When you say 'bug you to death', what do you mean exactly?
- alarm at each start up?
- intermittent alarm while driving?
- persistent alarm?
- constant display on Nav screen?
Thanks

I am curious to know too!! Is it just the "exclamation" light that appears or an actual audible sound.

There is a yellow TP warning light in the tach just inside the "2" digit. P116 of the driver's manual.

"No monitoring
In the event of faults the tire pressure monitoring cannot monitor the tire pressure. The warning light on the instrument panel lights up and a corresponding message appears on the on-board computer.

Monitoring is not active when:
  • the tire pressure monitoring is faulty,
  • wheel transmitters for the tire pressure monitoring are missing,
  • temporarily after changing a wheel (learning phase),
  • more than four wheel transmitters are detected,
  • there is external interference by other radio sources, e.g. wireless headphones,
  • tire temperatures are too high.
f Please observe the chapter “WARNINGS ON
THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE ONBOARD
COMPUTER” on Page 122."

On page 128 the table entry for the alert light notes:

TPC inactive: The tyre pressure monitoring system is faulty.
Consult a qualified specialist workshop.*

If you acknowledge the alert, just like gas fill or other alerts it will come back when you restart the car. There will not be a constant sound alert. Porsche understands that the monitors can be absent for as simple reason as the batteries in the senders go dead.
