The weld itself is pretty trivial with this setup. Just about any muffler shop (avoid the chains if possible) will take care of you on this. The part of the job that is foreign to many shops is the removal of the mufflers. The guy I went to wanted $400 to do the job because he thought the muffler removal was going to take a long time to figure out. The fact that he didn't know how made me worry about him scratching a bumper trying to take it off, etc.

So instead, I removed them myself. It's quite a bit easier than some make it out to be. I just backed up on my ramps, removed the three bolts holding the cans on, removed the clamps AND the tips, plus the small support piece that holds the bumper close in by the rear wheel (search other threads for all those details), and with a little shoving out on the rear bumper, I was able to work the cans down pretty easily. No bumper or wheel removal necessary.

If you're inclined, I'd try that route. The $400 job was reduced to $125, and I was up and running with the piece of mind that no harm was done removing/installing the cans. Putting them back in took 30 mins once I knew which tools, and I had the added benefit that I got to drive around the block without the mufflers installed to reassure myself that I'd NEVER want to install a bypass pipe!
