No affiliation - it seems like a very good price but get a PPI no doubt

- 2.5 years of warranty remaining (5/21/09 in service date)
- 20K miles
- Southern California location

Hope this helps someone get into a P-car. I think it's a very good price.

It lists Bose Surround, Sat Radio Ready, AUX as some of the options on the car. This car has none of those options.

Also has a 325hp engine and 273 torque (instead of 345hp and 288)

When I was looking, I came across a number of Carmax ads, but the incorrect descriptions, misspellings, etc. always scared me off. I guess I assumed it was too good to be true, and I'd end up with a car that was basically destroyed, then brought back to life.

Are they legit?

shumphries is infamous around these parts
I can tell you that when I sold my Miata to them almost ten years ago, they gave me a modest price because it had had some water damage from Tropical Storm Allison. Then when I was signing the papers they handed me a sheet to sign (among the title transfer docs etc.) that was mimeographed (yes, with the purple ink) that I literally could not read. "What's this?," I asked. "Oh, this is the certification that the car has never been flooded." "But my car has water damage and has been flooded." I kid you not: "Well, was it flooded or just get a little wet?" Anyway, I refused to sign it, and they were most put out. Who knows what other unreadable certifications they try to get people to sign....

My recent experience with Carmax (in California if that makes a difference) was different in the positive sense.

My GF needed a car, so I sourced 4 candidates in my region across 3 Carmax dealerships.
They brought all 4 cars to my local carmax and I took my time inspecting and testdriving them.

We ended up buying a 2007 BMW 328i, off-lease with 29K miles. Clean Carfax and existing factory warranty.

They explicitly state that they will NOT sell cars with frame damage or salvage titles. They will buy the car from you but immediately pass it on to more downmarket used car dealers (no law against that).

They also offer an unconditional 5-day money back guarantee. So even if you have second thoughts and take your purchase to a PPI and don;t like what you see, you can take it back for a full refund or a full trade.

I found the whole experience pleasant and efficient. I would use them again and recommend them to others, but your mileage (and experience) may vary.

To be fair, I did buy an aging Suburban from Carmax a few years ago, and it was easy and no-hassle. But I'd just be careful before I spent $62k with them.

Though they advertise the no-haggle pricing, can you still negotiate?
