07' 997 Maintenance advice/questions...

I recently purchased a 2007 Carrera with 16k miles. Car still has about 11 months of remainign factory warranty. I went to the local Porsche dealer to find about previous maintenance and they said they couldn't release this information. All they said is that vehicle had a 2 yr. service which included a brake fluid flush. Dealer said that car would flash when it needed service and until then not to do anything. I've never owned a Porsche before, but am curious about oil, filter changes, etc. Will the car tell me when it needs an oil change? Is there anywhere that I can download the maintenance schedule? I appreciate any help you can throw my way, as my local dealer wasn't too helpful. Thanks.

I've never waited for a service light to illuminate and am not even sure if the car has this feature. When I saw the long intervals recommended in the manual I felt it was too long for my taste . Oddly enough I am not this picky with my other cars .

This is what works for me .
1 year or 5K miles --whichever comes first .
Every two years = the big service (fluids, inspections)

With Tires -
The rear last anywhere from 7-11K depending on how one drives .
It's usually two sets of rears for one front .
Flat tires are not plugged or patched. They are replaced . If tread wear is unbalanced I replace both and keep the good tire as a future potential spare.

I have decided to have my oil changed evey 5k. I figure $200 every 6 months or so for me is worth it to have the service team looking for potential problems. Either the dealer service team or an indie shop can tell you what needs to be done when.
